Minna Kilpeläinen's insight:

"Transmedia components help the creators and the producers to place the story world – the intellectual property -  in different context across different media platforms, that the audience can encounter there. It’s the subject matter, and the characters that are going to draw them in – not the fact that it, like television today, is located on a single media that you have to make an appointment to go and see.” - Jeff Gomez

20 Fab Ways to Actually Tell Your Stories On Social Media

20 Fab Ways to Actually Tell Your Stories On Social Media | Hitchhiker | Scoop.it
Is it possible to narrate a story with social media posts that are supposed to be short and sweet? Yes! Here're 20 creative social media storytelling ideas.

Karen Dietz's curator insight, February 22, 11:31 AM

In all my years of curating, I've looked at tons of articles promoting storytelling on social media. The problem? The posts are not really about storytelling. They are about photo sharing, 140-character opinions, posting links, and anything else you can think of. There's been mention of your collective tweets/posts/photos adding up to "your story" -- but that's a vague notion at best. None of this is really helpful.

Finally Alfred Lua from Buffer has written an intelligent piece that really does talk about storytelling -- yes, real stories -- and how to do it on different social media platforms. Yay!

Go grab these ideas and start having a field day sharing your stories.

Stories enable us to build personality and create a connection with consumers. But can we actually tell a story on social media? Is it possible to narrate a story with social media posts that are supposed to be short and sweet?

It turns out there are many ways to use social media for storytelling!

What journalists can learn from Pokémon Go

What journalists can learn from Pokémon Go | Hitchhiker | Scoop.it
From a reporting standpoint: Are there ways to report on the most trafficked locations? Are there ways to lead people playing the game to their next action? This seems like a perfect place for advertising, but it’s also one where information sharing can potentially flourish. Perhaps players visit a location, and then see archival news stories related to that location, or learn more about a place and are then prompted to take an action. Or perhaps players notice something in that location that’s worthy of a news story in and of itself.

How could newsrooms make themselves available to the many people who are participating in augmented reality spaces who are now part of a much larger network?

The First-Ever Snapchat Movie is Here, and it's Horrifying—Go Behind the Scenes

The First-Ever Snapchat Movie is Here, and it's Horrifying—Go Behind the Scenes | Hitchhiker | Scoop.it

Minna Kilpeläinen's insight:
Snapchat movie Sickhouse was a real success. "Everyone was hooked. People trust that what they are seeing on their snap stories is real", said he director Hannah Macpherson. One key was to cast a protagonist who already was a social media pop star (Andrea Russett). She posted the videos from her own account.

Emily Buder:  "We go behind the scenes of the first Snapchat movie, a real-time horror flick."

Dr. Pamela Rutledge's curator insight, June 27, 2016 11:57 AM

Sickhouse - the first SnapChat-based film--brought to mind Blair Witch Project.  Both are revolutionary in their use of media to capture authenticity, breaking the fourth wall, and capturing the audience's imagination by fiddling with reality vs. fiction.  Using SnapChat is a clever device to make the film timely and raw.

First adopters always have the advantage of challenging the audience's existing mental models about where and how reality ends and fiction begins.  This is a nice metaphor for social technologies as an extension of the social space rather than "some other place."  It is exactly that understanding that made the initial launch so powerful.

SnapChat also demands a 'Heminwayesqe' brevity and succinctness to scene construction, especially in real time.  Creating a horror film is a bit of a cheat as all that heightened anxiety increases the "need to know" among the audience that encourages following the story through.  Nevertheless, with so many moving parts, it makes sense to use a genre with wide socioemotional appeal.

The irony is that it didn't all disappear in the SnapChat way, and thus challenges how we understand SnapChat as well.  I have wondered for some time, given the creativity that SnapChat unleashes, how long people will be willing to just let their mini-artworks go into the ether.  When we create, it is part of us.  We have a long history of documenting acts of creativity because it is how we share our most human qualities.

These 10 short interactive films are amazing. They are all unqiue, employing different methods for viewers to engage with the story.

My colleague Mark Goldman reminded me of this piece. I'd seen it earlier but not had the time to dig into it. I took the time today to do so, and am glad I did. I think you will be amazed also.

Enjoy the many ways stories can be told -- especially using different techniques and technologies. You don't need all these bells and whistles, but I bet you'll get ideas for ways you want to share some of your stories.
