Start early to teach students how to reason, critical thinking will develop naturally. Foster their  inquisitive abilities by keeping them focused and there will be no need to memorize. It is possible to develop effective thinkers when they are involved in the learning process rather than just recipients of information.

I just love the breadth and depth of story and this slide share really shows how it can be used fully! It's focused on public good but there are lots of great insights and learning for business too. Telling stories across a range of mediums and developing a 'story world'? Brilliant!

You can do this in your non profit or business too. Whether it's through character development on social media or creating an interactive game for your audience, you can make your story come to life in lots of different ways. Some great examples of organizations and how they have done it here too.

Otherwise go to the end and copy the questions to your (actual) wall or anywhere you see it almost everyday. The story you are going to tell about your startup will actually help figuring out what you are doing in general.

ABC Radio:  "Fans have long had a role in influencing and in some cases helping to shape the works of popular culture they adore. But when they get restless in the modern age, they now have the resources to take a piece of fiction and make it their own. Some content producers find that assertive approach threatening. But others, particularly in the gaming sector, have begun to embrace it."

Kajsa Hartig's curator insight, December 8, 2015 2:46 AM

"Take a healthy dose of obsessive fan culture, throw in a whole array of digital production tools, add a writer/producer who's happy to share, mash it all together, and you’ve got the makings of a nice piece of co-creation."

Minna Kilpeläinen's insight:

"Audiences today want to be challenged and have never been more willing to try something new", says Sean Pruen, a multi-disciplinary director who recently joined UNIT9 as Experiential Creative Director.

Interactive and non-linear storytelling really is a challenge for user. Today there are great amount of fascinating and very carefully planned combinations of platforms with multiple storylines for users to discover. The user is the ultimate creator, because s/he´s the one who chooses where the story goes. Time is another challenge. So many amazing story worlds remain undiscovered just because the users don´t have enough time to dig into them.

Minna Kilpeläinen's insight:

Krish compares interactive documentaries and interactive drama and finds that documentaries (for now) use less platforms. I believe that factual transmedia storyworlds have many platforms still to discover. The key is the main character. In addition to web platforms and TV, the main character can also meet the audience in live events, make their own vlogs and chat in different social media platforms.

Still, it is important have a clear focus in the story. Krish uses the term limitation. "With the boundary in place, you will focus only on the important aspects and concentrate your efforts on bringing them to life", says Krish.

Alvaro Liuzzi reminds transmedia-storytellers to think it through the user.
Five times I: Immersion. Users want to enter more deeply into a story and learn more about the story world.Interactivity. Users want to be able to change or influence story elements and interact with other users involved in a global narrative.Integration. The story should be cohesive across various platforms and have some sort of interface with the real world.Impact. The story should inspire the user to act in the real world.

Does 4D or 5D media displace text as a media? As Andrey Miroshnichenko describes, today 4D, and 5D movie theatres offer an almost full package of sensorium agitation. “Spectators” are being shaken, touched, blown with hot or flavored air, poured on or sprayed with water, and moved down and up.

Do we need this kind of overall experience to understand and focus on stories in media? Isn´t text enough? Is text going to be dead for certain audiences in the future?
