Contextualizing/ Context is to understand what is happening around certain historical events helps students understand what is going on and to gain a deeper meaning. 

 

This can help students when writing a paper to better understand the era of history.

AC History cites seven key conceptual understandings..."Taken together, these concepts tie “historical thinking” to competencies in “historical literacy.” In this case, “historical literacy” means gaining a deep understanding of historical events and processes through active engagement with historical texts."

This series of interactive activities introduces and models the Historical Thinking Skills defined by the National Center for History in the Schools. The interactives each model a specific skill or set of skills, such as analyzing historical artifacts or using primary sources to develop a thesis. The first five interactives conclude with "Classroom Extensions," which give teachers hints on how they can teach using these skills in their classrooms.

Corroboration is a historical skill which students must use when in a history class. This is especially true when they are writing a paper. Corroboration forces students to challenge the idea of truth. Just becuase one book says something is true does not mean all of them will. They also have to understand the concept of different view points
