How to turn bootleg videotapes into fuel!

In environmental matters, a sense of proportion matters. Recycling is important, but in the big scheme of things (1 ton fuel / car / year, 1000s of m3 gas per home per year, ...), recycling the plastics in bootleg videos is not really going to make a dent.

Climate change will mean more malnourished children, experts warn - The Guardian GlobalDevelopment | HINGOL NATIONAL PARK! | Scoop.it

A report from the International Centre for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas(Icarda) and two other international research groups says many of the solutions to climate change and food production are available now, but increased investment and urgent action is needed."Many of the solutions to climate change in the dry areas are known," said Mahmoud Solh, Icarda's director general. "They range from water and land management practices to improved crop varieties, and strategies for diversifying traditional crops. The best technologies serve little purpose without a strong policy environment in which they can be put into action, financed and managed."

Salman Zafar's curator insight, March 13, 2013 3:11 AM

Energy consumption in the Middle East is rising exponentially due to rapid industrialization and high population growth rate. Infact, the level of primary energy consumption in MENA region is one of the highest worldwide.  However, the efficiency of energy production and consumption patterns in the region requires improvement.

Noor Fatima's curator insight, April 8, 2013 9:02 AM

One of the most difficult parts of the conversation with the general public about our enegy landscape is the utter lack of understanding of the existing subsidies to conventional fuel extraction and generation.
