5 Qualitative Approaches described by Creswell set in a Quiz Show Game template

5 Qualitative Approaches described by Creswell set in a Quiz Show Game template | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

Check.It.Out! Look at what I put together to distinguish the five qualitative approaches to research that Creswell (2013) described in his book. I had NO IDEA PowerPoint presentations could be this interactive! It's all about hyper linkingbetween the slides and I'm so impressed with the result. Almost 40 pgs summarized in one presentation that's fun to navigate thru. You can download the presentation and edit it to your heart's delight so you can use the template for other topics/subjects if you want.

Creswell, J. W. (2013). Qualitative inquiry and research design: Choosing among five approaches (3rd ed.). Los Angeles, CA: Sage.

Olgy Gary's insight:

I'd love to take credit for this but the content is all Creswell's and the platform is all due to PowerPoint's hyperlinking features. :-)

Listen to Michelle Obama's brutally honest speech on the daily sting of racism

"Michelle Obama spoke at Tuskegee University's commencement Saturday, and her remarks are going viral because of their blunt assessment of the racism she said the graduates of the historically black college had faced and would continue to face on a daily basis — and her admission that bigotry and bias have continued to haunt her, even in the White House..."

The Myth About Women in Science? Bias in the Study of Gender Inequality in STEM

The Myth About Women in Science? Bias in the Study of Gender Inequality in STEM | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

"A new article on CNN by psychology professors, Wendy Williams and Stephen Ceci, boldly proclaims that gender bias in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is a myth. Their research has been published in theProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Unfortunately, their work has a flawed methodological premise and their conclusions do not match their study design. This is not the first time these researchers have whipped up false controversy by decrying the end of sexism in science..."

Olgy Gary's insight:

Dr. Zevallos provides a response to the work of Williams & Ceci, who have proclaimed that there is no gender bias in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics (STEM). In this article, Dr. Zevallos shows how the claims Williams & Ceci are making "are based on a flawed methodological premise and do not match their study design."

The Slow Death of the University

The Slow Death of the University | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

"Bean counters, bureaucrats, and barbarians are to blame...In any case, the vast increase in bureaucracy in British higher education, occasioned by the flourishing of a managerial ideology and the relentless demands of the state assessment exercise, means that academics have had little enough time to prepare their teaching even if it seemed worth doing, which for the past several years it has not..."

Olgy Gary's insight:

Although Eagleton is describing, by and large, British higher education, the same is happening here in the USA. The article brings to mind Ginsberg's excellent title, "The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative University and Why it Matters." http://goo.gl/iZfI3I

The Fundamentalist Witch Hunt’s New Prey

The Fundamentalist Witch Hunt’s New Prey | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it
A beloved professor forced from a Nazarene university this month is the latest casualty in a war that’s being waged against thinking evangelical Christians.
Olgy Gary's insight:
It's sobering to see this happening...and not just at NNU. Giberson writes that, "Evangelicals have just voted another intellectual off their island...In the short run, silencing controversial voices does quiet things down and probably creates space for college administrators to think about other things. But this peace is an illusion. American evangelicalism’s failure to make peace with the progressive scholars within its ranks—or even keep the conversation going—has alienated it from a broad range of scholarship..."
