5 Qualitative Approaches described by Creswell set in a Quiz Show Game template

5 Qualitative Approaches described by Creswell set in a Quiz Show Game template | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

Check.It.Out! Look at what I put together to distinguish the five qualitative approaches to research that Creswell (2013) described in his book. I had NO IDEA PowerPoint presentations could be this interactive! It's all about hyper linkingbetween the slides and I'm so impressed with the result. Almost 40 pgs summarized in one presentation that's fun to navigate thru. You can download the presentation and edit it to your heart's delight so you can use the template for other topics/subjects if you want.

Creswell, J. W. (2013). Qualitative inquiry and research design: Choosing among five approaches (3rd ed.). Los Angeles, CA: Sage.

Olgy Gary's insight:

I'd love to take credit for this but the content is all Creswell's and the platform is all due to PowerPoint's hyperlinking features. :-)

"During this campaign, I’ve been talking a lot about what I see as the central economic challenge of our time: raising incomes so hardworking families can afford a middle-class life...I believe one of the single biggest ways we can raise incomes is by making college affordable and available to every American. So today, I’m laying out a plan to do just that."

The Completion Agenda, Part 3: Revising Your Dissertation

The Completion Agenda, Part 3: Revising Your Dissertation | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

"You’ve successfully defended — but you’re not done yet...If you had to pick a cliché that best describes completing a dissertation, "it ain’t over till it’s over" would work well. So far in this series we have discussed finishing a submittable draft and successfully defending the dissertation. But as every doctoral candidate knows, no matter how well the defense goes you are very likely not quite free and clear yet..."

Coping With Verbal Abuse

Coping With Verbal Abuse | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

"Academic politics are vicious, but that doesn’t mean you have to be...The saying "Academic politics are so vicious precisely because the stakes are so small" has been attributed to many different people, including Henry Kissinger, Wallace Sayre, Jesse Unruh, Samuel Johnson, and Laurence J. Peter, among others. Whoever said it first had a point. When you choose a career in academe, you need to be prepared not only for rough-and-tumble politics, but also for the verbal abuse that goes with it..."

Meet The 63rd Black Woman In American History With A Physics Ph.D.

Meet The 63rd Black Woman In American History With A Physics Ph.D. | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it
Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein is a 32-year-old theoretical astrophysicist. Her academic home is arguably the nation's most elite physics department, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Olgy Gary's insight:

I did not know there were so few Black women PhDs in Physics. As of the date of this article, 6/24/15, there are 83 Black women who have received a physics-related PhD. The figure becomes all the more glaring when we see that, according to the article, over 1,700 physics PhDs were awarded in 2013 alone.

The Withering of a Once-Great State University

The price of one man’s presidential ambitions is the slow death of the University of Wisconsin system.

Among the dozens of policy changes embedded in the budget signed on Sunday by Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin were measures to strike the definition of tenure appointments; insert detailed termination procedures for tenured faculty members in the event of unspecified "budget or program decisions"; subordinate the faculty to chancellors and the largely governor-appointed Board of Regents; and strip from faculty members their "primary responsibility" for academic and educational activities and personnel matters..."

I've copied below some of my favs. There are lots more I could cite here... just visit the site and let me know which ones you liked best. :-)

- "I do my best proofreading after I hit send."
- "Choose a discipline you love and you'll never work a day in your life likely because that field isn't hiring."
- "If you steal from one author, it's plagiarism. If you steal from many, it's a handbook."
- "Anything you can do I can do meta."
- "Sometimes it's not about finding a new path, but following the road longer than anyone else."

The Attack on Truth: We are entering an age of willful ignorance

The Attack on Truth: We are entering an age of willful ignorance | Higher Education Topics & Resources | Scoop.it

"We are entering an age of willful ignorance...There is simple ignorance and there is willful ignorance, which is simple ignorance coupled with the decision to remain ignorant. Normally that occurs when someone has a firm commitment to an ideology that proclaims it has all the answers — even if it counters empirical matters that have been well covered by scientific investigation. More than mere scientific illiteracy, this sort of obstinacy reflects a dangerous contempt for the methods that customarily lead to recognition of the truth. And once we are on that road, it is a short hop to disrespecting truth..."
