"Today’s humanities faculties that can’t build student enrollments are like people who can’t sell umbrellas during a rainstorm: great teachers teaching great books and great ideas are exactly what most students need. Unfortunately, too many people in the field in the last generation were interested in producing bad or indifferent teachers who taught dull and impenetrable books filled with tendentious and superficial ideas. And as for concepts like character and spiritual development, forget it. Fortunately, this seems to be changing among many younger faculty and grad students and there are grounds to hope that the humanities in America will regain some balance and poise."

El profesor de matemáticas y ciencias de la computación Matthew Weathers  de Biola University preparó un cierre de clases muy original celebrando el "april fool´s day" (día de las bromas o de los tontos). Su  vídeo se ha convertido en viral y ha sido visto por más 12 millones de personas.

Interesantes resultados de este primer estudio realizado por los profesores del curso MOOC AlgebraX de edX donde se puede apreciar como los contenidos interactivos que están pensados para motivar continuamente al estudiante resultan mucho más efectivos que los cursos con contenidos tradicionales (videos pasivos de larga duración) en cursos masivos en línea. Yo mismo asistí a dos clases: una del curso Química del estado sólido y la otra de AlgebraX. La primera presentaba un video de la clase presencial del profesor en el MIT y la segunda un video interactivo en el que Tú participabas colocando resultados en la presentación conforme te invitaba el profesor (voz en off) a hacerlo. Los resultados fueron muy evidentes, me quedé enganchado más tiempo en el segundo curso.

Unlike the early years in the development of computers and computer-based media, digital media are now commonplace and pervasive, having been taken up by a wide range of individuals and institutions in all walks of life. Digital media have escaped the boundaries of professional and formal practice, and the academic, governmental, and industry homes that initially fostered their development. Now they have been taken up by diverse populations and non-institutionalized practices, including the peer activities of youth. Although specific forms of technology uptake are highly diverse, a generation is growing up in an era where digital media are part of the taken-for-granted social and cultural fabric of learning, play, and social communication."

Mathieu Nebra odiaba ver a gente abandonando sus estudios por no sentirse capaz de aprender y decidió crear una web que funcionara “como ese amigo que te explica y te ayuda a seguir adelante en el curso”. Por eso, en 1999 y a la tierna edad de 14 años, creó ‘Site du Zéro’: una web de tutoriales que pronto congregó a profesores y estudiantes en torno a los cursos libres de gran calidad que albergaba. Años después y bajo la forma de un proyecto empresarial conjunto con su socio Pierre Dubuc, terminaría siendo el germen de OpenClassrooms, la primera plataforma francesa de e-learning, dotada ahora de una amplia comunidad de más de 3 millones de visitantes al mes, 600.000 usuarios registrados y cerca de 800 cursos.

El Profesor Walter Levin enseñó física en el MIT hasta que se jubiló en el 2011.Fue situado entre los 300 mejores profesores de los Estados Unidos, por la Princeton Review. Es el único profesor del MIT que lo ha conseguido hasta el momento.


Aquí comparto con Ustedes uno de sus videos más vistos en youtube donde enseña la conservación de la energía a través del movimiento del péndulo y arriesga su vida para demostrar que la física funciona!!. Estoy seguro que los estudiantes no olvidaron jamás esa clase.
