Sometimes, little things go unnoticed and yet, in the long run cause major ripples in how we think about communicate among ourselves and about ourselves--thinking of Facebook and how it has both evolved as a digital leader and evolutionized communication and transparencies. Similarly, LinkedIn has been making significant changes in its  audience and its footprint.

Elaine J Roberts, Ph.D.'s curator insight, April 20, 9:14 PM

What's so fascinating about higher education is how we might be able to witness something truly transformative and amazing though I suspect the impetus will come from without like this LinkedIn/Lynda move. And that's okay.

1. Free online courses for everyone.

2. Paid online courses for professional graduate programs.

3. Online components in face-to-face undergraduate courses.

Stanford President John L. Hennessy on Information Technology and the Future of Teaching and Learning

The "unbundling" of degrees that many are predicting -- where students assemble the learning they want, offered in person or online, by one or more institutions to earn credentials -- is something that Hennessy predicted was the future of continuing education and professional education. "Online technologies will dominate this marketplace," he said. And this will include many professionally oriented master's programs, he said. But he rejected the idea that this would be or should be the future of undergraduate education.
