Stanford President John L. Hennessy on Information Technology and the Future of Teaching and Learning

The "unbundling" of degrees that many are predicting -- where students assemble the learning they want, offered in person or online, by one or more institutions to earn credentials -- is something that Hennessy predicted was the future of continuing education and professional education. "Online technologies will dominate this marketplace," he said. And this will include many professionally oriented master's programs, he said. But he rejected the idea that this would be or should be the future of undergraduate education.

Are You Missing This Piece to Enhance Student Learning? | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it

If you have worked in any educational environment from elementary school, higher education, or corporate training, then you have had students who consistently struggle with a topic, skill, or prerequisite knowledge that they must learn in order to be successful. Likewise, many of those same students struggle to motivate themselves to learn the material they are struggling with.Traditionally, we have relied on more passive forms of resources (i.e. textbooks, journals, news articles, videos,

Hybrid Classes Outlearn Traditional Classes -- THE Journal | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it
Students in hybrid classrooms outperformed their peers in traditional classes in all grades and subjects, according to the newest study from two organizations that work with schools in establishing hybrid instruction. According to the 2013-2014 "Hybrid Learning Program Results," from Hybrid Learning Institute and Dellicker Strategies, more than nine out of 10 schools using a hybrid learning program reported higher academic performance on standardized tests compared to traditional classrooms in the same school district or state benchmarks.

Transition in learning and education through technological trends by John Leek

Transition in learning and education through technological trends by John Leek | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it
technology and new media have a deep influence on the way we learn as individuals and how learning takes place. Learning used to be the main domain of schools, universities etcetera. These days the acceleration of all sorts of informal and non formal learning is astonishing. Schools, museums, libraries and other 'centers of learning' have to redefine themselves. Every employee has to keep learning in a rapidly changing society. The classroom is flipping but also the museum and the workplace.

Tenets of the Liberal Arts: Complex Thinking in the Digital Age (EDUCAUSE Review) | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it

"Twenty-one years later, the current debate about technology upending the liberal arts tradition1 entails a kind of collective amnesia similar to that evident at the dawn of the digital revolution. We seem to have forgotten what we already knew: that we need to bring all of our critical capacities to the promise of linked information technologies and we need to bring the liberal arts methods and rigor to the digital environment."
