Wiley: Interactive Open Educational Resources: A Guide to Finding, Choosing, and Using What's Out There to Transform College Teaching - John D. Shank | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it

Sponsored by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), this one-of-a-kind book demonstrates the best tools, resources, and techniques for discovering, selecting, and integrating interactive open educational resources (OERs) into the teaching and learning process. The author examines many of the best repositories and digital library websites for finding high quality materials, explaining in depth the best practices for effectively searching these repositories and the various methods for evaluating, selecting, and integrating the resources into the instructor’s curriculum and course assignments, as well as the institution’s learning management system.

I just received the author's copy from JB - nice to finally hold it in my hands. A lot of hard work went in to it, but if it helps faculty and librarians find and integrate these high quality resources into their courses it will all be worth it. JB did a great job with the cover of the book and thanks to ACRL for co-sponsoring this first of its kind book.

Transition in learning and education through technological trends by John Leek

Transition in learning and education through technological trends by John Leek | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it
technology and new media have a deep influence on the way we learn as individuals and how learning takes place. Learning used to be the main domain of schools, universities etcetera. These days the acceleration of all sorts of informal and non formal learning is astonishing. Schools, museums, libraries and other 'centers of learning' have to redefine themselves. Every employee has to keep learning in a rapidly changing society. The classroom is flipping but also the museum and the workplace.
John Shank's insight:

Nice compilation of videos on how technology is impacting teaching & learning.

Tenets of the Liberal Arts: Complex Thinking in the Digital Age (EDUCAUSE Review)

Tenets of the Liberal Arts: Complex Thinking in the Digital Age (EDUCAUSE Review) | Higher Education in the Future | Scoop.it

"Twenty-one years later, the current debate about technology upending the liberal arts tradition1 entails a kind of collective amnesia similar to that evident at the dawn of the digital revolution. We seem to have forgotten what we already knew: that we need to bring all of our critical capacities to the promise of linked information technologies and we need to bring the liberal arts methods and rigor to the digital environment."
