This is a pretty amazing infographic that looks at school suspensions of 9th grade stduents and how it impacts them over their high school career. It turnes "a student suspended even once in ninth grade is less likely to graduate from high school compared to his or her peers who never got in trouble." As well as this infographic the article links The Civil Rights Project and "Two first-of-their-kind reports shed light on the growing use of punitive disciplinary measures and provides research-based alternatives." (This 2nd quote if from the Civil Rights Project and can be found at http://civilrightsproject.ucla.edu/news/press-releases/2013-press-releases/out-of-school-and-off-track-reports-detail-disturbing-and-increased-use-of-suspensions.

Carla Gentry CSPO's curator insight, June 15, 2013 11:42 AM

The Globe reported that there are about 150,000 computer science and math-related jobs added every year in the U.S., and only 100,000 college graduates with relevant degrees. The tech companies argue that many more jobs than those 150,000 require computer proficiency, and that it should be a core part of our educational system. Meanwhile, only 713 high school students in Massachusetts took an advanced placement exam in computer science last year.

5 Ways the iPads Redefine what "Finals Week" in a high school looks like... paradigm shift with the SAMR model

5 Ways the iPads Redefine what "Finals Week" in a high school looks like... paradigm shift with the SAMR model | High School | Scoop.it

"I wear several hats in my life: blogger, surfer, presenter, and workshop facilitator. However, my primary role is that of a high school teacher. As a high school teacher who has six different preps every year this time of year is quite busy for me as a I prepare six different final exams for my students. However, as I embarked upon my yearly adventure to create my 2013 finals I realized how much the iPad has been a game changer in terms of not only how I assess my students but also in terms of WHAT I want them to know and HOW I want them to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding to me."
