I don't believe in divorce....when me and my partner have problems we will sit down, talk and work it out! Commitment for life.
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

This article strongly represents my belief in divorce and marriage. It is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, and if you hold on tight enough, you make it to the finish.

Remarriage issues - Maybe 'I do'

Remarriage issues - Maybe 'I do' | Why is divorce so popular in today's world? | Scoop.it
Very different from first marriages (2013/381)

Via billcoffin
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

Divorce is a common theme in our society. With divorcees making up a large part of the population, so it is understandable that there are many remarriages. It seems according to statistics and research within this article that just because you have been married before, you are not necessarily any better at it the second, third, or whatever time it may be. The trend of less divorcees getting rehitched shows just how little faith they have in the institution of marriage and the lack of optimism about it lasting forever. I would say that being divorced does not make you truly cynical or entirely negative, it is more of being honest and real about what you have to gain and what you have to lose.

What happens to a country when its young people stop having sex? Japan is finding out… Abigail Haworth investigates

Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

I threw in this article so that non-Japanese people can hear what happens to intimate relationships and marriages when life is overly stressful and busy with things other than passion and love of the opposite sex. It is good to pursue you own goals and dreams, it is even better when you can do it with someone you love and are intimately close to.

Looking For New Love Online is a Major Cause of Divorce - BUSTED | Dollars and Sex | Big Think

Looking For New Love Online is a Major Cause of Divorce - BUSTED | Dollars and Sex | Big Think | Why is divorce so popular in today's world? | Scoop.it

Do a quick online search for the term “What causes divorce” and you will be greeted with a myriad of sites claiming to have the answer. A popular claim is that online dating and social networking sites are major contributors to infidelity and divorce. A new economics paper presents some very compelling evidence that it is simply not true. The ease at which married people can find new lovers online is not causing an increase in marital instability.

Via Sakis Koukouvis
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

I actually differ from this article's view that marriage is not harmed by online interaction. Unfortunately, they have statistics to back them up, and all that I have is life experiences and a keen observation with no percentages and pie charts. I felt that to be fair that I should include an article that has a slight differerence of opinion. When you ask yourself what do you think, see if you go with your gut or the numbers.

Far too simplistic to make the link between the Internet, social media etc and increase in divorce. A lot of research to be done yet.

Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

I added Clint Eastwood's divorce because he was one of my all time favorite tv and movie heroes. He seemed like he could do anything he wanted because he never let anything get in his way. It brings it into perspective for me when one of my heroes can fail just as easily as I did.

Do men get divorced because their friends in the pub are doing it?

Do men get divorced because their friends in the pub are doing it? | Why is divorce so popular in today's world? | Scoop.it
Nearly one in four men said they had been influenced by friends who were already divorced or separated, the Co-operative Legal Services survey found.

Via vince tracy
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

There needs to be more research done to see if there is some hard credible evidence to the idea that people, men in particular, get divorced soon after a friend does it. It does seem and feel like it is true based on my life experience, but at the same time when you are going through a divorce or thinking about a divorce, you tend to notice anything that deals with the issue of divorce. It is not uncommon to hear of friends, coworkers, or siblings getting a divorce during the same time. Maybe it is the idea of not going through it alone or that it not that big a deal because some one you know is doing it too.

Divorce is good and other myths: Column

Divorce is good and other myths: Column | Why is divorce so popular in today's world? | Scoop.it
Don't buy into popularity of unhitched culture.

Via billcoffin
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

This article "hits the nail on the head" as far as the main cause of divorce in America. We view it as not a big deal. Divorce is considered easy and a way to instant gratification if our level of happiness is not constantly maintained. We don't mind going to battle, we just do not want to go to war, but war is typically what it takes to achieve victory. A marriage is one of the most if not the most difficult "responsibility" to have in life. It takes someone of true grit and iron resolve to be willing to go the whole way "until death do us part." I failed the first time, I do not plan on failing the second.

'Crocodile Dundee' Couple To Divorce

'Crocodile Dundee' Couple To Divorce | Why is divorce so popular in today's world? | Scoop.it
Wow, we certainly didn't see this one coming - 'Crocodile Dundee' stars Paul and Linda Hogan have announced they are getting a divorce.

Via #BBBundyBlog #NOMORELIES Tom Woods #Activist Award #Scoopiteer >20,000 Sources >250K Connections http://goo.gl/ruHO3Q
Jon Z. Bennington's insight:

Watching this couple on the movie screen as a child, and then finding out that they ended up getting married later on because of the passion that they found on the set was fascinating to me. They were married a long time, especially for a "Hollywood" couple, but like many others their marriage failed as well. Like Eastwood's cowboy, Hogan's Crocodile Dundee seemed like a man who had what it takes to make a woman happy. It goes to show the power of "Hollywood" and that I should quit thinking like a boy.

Christopher Pearsall's curator insight, October 23, 2013 12:52 PM

As a fan of the Crocodile Dundee Movies and both of them as actor and actress is it certainly unfortunate to hear they are divorcing.  I hope their divorce lawyers aren't simply about getting a paycheck and also think of them as PEOPLE which I find is a sorely lacking characteristic of too many lawyers and law firms.
