Turbulent times are where the "action is" and when leadership is needed the most ... and when it counts the most.  The only question is will you choose to grab the "turbulent" bull by the horns and lead your people and organization to even greater potential, or will you let someone else lead instead ( ... perhaps your competition or adversary)?

The new WISE Publication, to be released in 2014, will focus on the link between new technologies and learning. Graham Brown-Martin, Founder of Learning Without Frontiers and Founder of Education Design Labs, will write the third WISE Book, which will be illustrated by the creative photography of award-winning photographer Newsha Tavakolian.


why [has] technology, to date, had very little impact on improved learning outcomes? This could be because we continue to use technology to reinforce 19th century teaching practice to meet out-dated assessment models.


Most of the world’s curriculum and assessment systems are based around fact recall rather than actually demonstrating that you have learned something and can deploy it within a problem-solving situation.

This topic is interesting and really taps into the essence of all my roles. (As a mom, teacher, coach, etc.)


It makes complete sense that if we continue to use technology to fit in to old processes, methods, and evaluation models -- we are not going to maximize our results and learning outcomes.

Our  education system is nothing more than child-care with some 

indoctrination thown in.

See/hear "The Wall" by Pink Floyd  (40+ years ago.)

Let the children play until they are old enough to decide what they are interested in learning. That's completely different than training them from Day 1 to "sit still, be quiet, and obey authority." Training a 5-year old to become a "worker" or 'Businessman"  is not education, but it may be child abuse.

Teacher Andrew Jones explains the difference between coaching and mentoring, and how they suit different professional development needs


Coaching, on the other hand, consists of peer-to-peer discussions that provide the person being coached with objective feedback on their strengths and weaknesses in areas chosen by them. While discussion is led by the coach, they ask questions that allow the professional seeking advice to reflect on their practice and set their own goals for improvement. This is the opposite of mentoring as the coach does not evaluate, judge or set targets, and the person being coached is in full control of the discussion.


Unlike mentoring, coaching also gives the recipient more say on the direction of their professional development and encourages them to take more ownership of their CPD.

Les termes de coaching et mentoring sont souvent utilisés et je n'avais pas vraiment réfléchi à la différence des deux approches. Si elles se basent toutes deux sur des échanges informels, elles ont un périmètre et des objectifs différents très bien expliqués dans l'article.


Cela va m'aider dans le mentoring que j'effectue autour du digital, activité que j'ai acceptée sant trop connaître les principes.
