I've read Dan Pink's book on Drive and this is a podcast on the same subject from AMA. Here Dan explains the three main success factors for anyone to succeed in the new world order, but more particularly for any organization to excel by creating a new operating system focussed on:
Autonomy - allowing people to self-direct their work
Mastery - the desire for people to get better and better
Purpose - for people to be part of something bigger than them
This Op system is more adapted to complex and creative work a reflection of our new world order. So Dan invites us to look at our patterns of behaviours to discover when we are in the flow (when individuals are in a transformational mode combining the three above elements). When in that state we typically will be inspired and time will simply melt away. Organizations that wish to thrive will create the conditions for people to remain in the flow. Every person has a great sentence that summarizes its sense of purpose, another great take-away from Dan Pink.
Now for all of you managers and HR professionals this is a must-read if you are looking to spike up your employee engagement and sustain high performance. Gallup's recent musing on the subjects as a leading think-tank.
