Special effects make up is another style of makeup used in television shows and movies. This makeup is used to create characters with different material other than regular cosmetics we use at home or on the runway. Special effects make up artists use materials such a rubber, latex, blood, and so much more.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 25, 2014 12:32 PM
To be a special effects make up artist, you need to have a lot of talent and experience with the different materials. You also need to be highly educated in cosmetics and skin care. It is a tough field to get into but is a very interesting job to have. Art is a big part in special effects makeup. Because the characters the make up artists create need to look real. If something sticks out as too fake, it could ruin the whole image of the character.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 28, 2014 12:33 PM
People who do well in the special effects field are the ones that are dedicated to the job. They love to be creative and work with the different materials. You need to also be skilled in drawing, and sculpture. But it is all about working hard and being a good listener.

Artificial skin is very popular in the special effects make up world. But what is very tricky about it is that it has to look and move the same exact way as real skin. A big mistake in apply artificial skin to an actor is not blending it correctly to their real skin. This could ruin the image of how the character should look. Artificial skin and prosthetics are first created in molds to fit the actor. Molds are made to be exact to the actors face or any other body part. It then makes a cast to apply onto the actor. Then it is the makeup artists job to turn the cast into the character.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 26, 2014 12:49 PM
They will add fake cuts, scars, blood, wrinkles, bit marks, virus infected skin, and so much more. Latex is used often to create artificial skin. This material is used because it is a strong enough material to create folds and wrinkles. It is also able to make move in ways actual facial muscles move in the face.

In the make up industry, doing high fashion makeup is at a whole complete different level than normal makeup. When doing high fashion makeup your model's look has to go with the style of clothing and style of the show or photo shoot they are in. Makeup artists do a lot when preparing for a fashion show. They have to find the right look and be able to do it quickly for the show. You have to be creative with the makeup and be able to not make the models look exactly like her outfit. You also have to be able to work on more than one person during shows. It takes a lot of work and not everyone can work in the high fashion field.

Every high fashion makeup artist does their own thing when they apply makeup to models. They have different styles and techniques on how they do their makeup. But each one must think out of the box when they have a challenge. They must be able to make the eye and face makeup match a little with the style of clothing, show or shoot. However the makeup should not entirely match with the look. They must be creative with color schemes, and decorative pieces.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 6, 2014 12:44 PM
Some makeup artists do not go with new trends in the high fashion world. Such as the new " no makeup" look. Some makeup artists like to stick with the original exotic colors, lashes and pieces. But they should always consider trying out new trends to get more business and get their name out into the high fashion field. This field is really hard to get into and become popular and known.

In high fashion shows, the outfits are not the only thing that people are looking at during the shows. Makeup is a big part of runway shows. It has to look perfect and bold enough for the audience to see. Makeup artists have certain rules on how the makeup should look on the designer's model. They also have to be able to apply the makeup quickly and have it look perfect for the show. Sometimes models have more than one makeup look and it is the makeup artists job to be able to change the look.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 7, 2014 12:27 PM
Designers will tell makeup artists what they want and sometimes the looks are very detailed. For example, sometimes they will tell the makeup artists what products to use and how they want the foundation to look with a hint of blush. They could also say to make the lips look natural and nude. For eyes they will say what colors to use and how they want the decorative pieces to look on the models face. Eyeshadow they may say to make the eyes look " glossy" and bold with extremely long eye lashes.

A lot of high fashion runway shows are for the big designer names. Designer brands will always have new expectations for how they want their models to look for the runway. They will sometimes want easy and quick and other times they want crazy looks in a shot amount of time. Today in 2014 designer names are wanting very different and out there kind of looks. The makeup artists must be able to perform well and make everything look right and how the designer wants. This can be a challenge for some makeup artists.

The main goal is to make everything look extremely real. Many makeup artists are meant to make their clients look beautiful. But with special effects artists, their job is to make their clients look scary, bloody, and alien like.
Angela Sciulli's comment, March 27, 2014 12:46 PM
Many special effects makeup artists will work for horror and science fiction films. They work more for these films because of the monster characters and gory scenes. They will also work on television sets if a character has a black eye, scrapes or cuts. They can also age characters or change them into a monster or alien.

Special effects makeup is meant to thrill the audience of movies and television shows. You also have to be extremely artistic. This branch of makeup is much different from every other branch. Although high fashion makeup can be crazy and out there. It is still meant to look beautiful, special effects makeup can be scary and is meant to look very real. For example, it is very popular to create virus infected skin and deep cuts and wombs. These designs will look real with blood and and cut skin. It is not meant to look "beautiful" in any way other than being artistic.

High fashion makeup is much different from normal everyday makeup. Example, the eye makeup that models wear in high fashion is a style you would never wear everyday. High fashion makeup is bright bold colors, thick blacks and whites. Ridiculous long eye lashes, and sometimes decorative gems and sparkle that are glued on. High fashion makeup is a art and not something to wear on a normal day.

The " no makeup look." is becoming very popular in the high fashion world. High fashion makeup is known for its extremely bold looks. Now models are coming out onto runways and photo shoots with barely any makeup on. The models will come out with very nude powder and foundations and only eyeliner and mascara on their eyes.

High fashion makeup is very decorative and insane. It is an art and something that women do not wear every day. Not every one can get into the high fashion makeup world. For makeup artists it takes a lot of work to get into this field and a lot of patience to finally have your spot as a high fashion makeup artist.
