Driving In Le Marche

Driving In Le Marche | Hideaway Le Marche | Scoop.it

If you are holidaying in Le Marche, a car is a must to explore those out of the way hill-top towns and villages.  Given the geography of the region, roads in Le Marche can be a bit winding and bumpy, and driving through those beautiful hill-top towns and villages can really challenge your manoeuvring and navigational skills. While driving through the mountains is a great scenic experience, the roads can be a little harrowing, and coastal tracks really only have room for one way traffic.

So, in order to make sure you enjoy driving in Le Marche, here are a few things worth knowing:

Located in Le Marche the massive fireball falling from space that 66mln years ago was responsible for killing off the dinosaurs | Hideaway Le Marche | Scoop.it

Tourists flock to Italy to see Michelangelo's David and other iconic hunks of Renaissance stone, but in a trip over spring break, a group of Columbia students got to visit rocks that have shaped the world in even more profound ways. In the limestone outcrops of Italy's Apennine Mountains, geologist Walter Alvarez collected some of the earliest evidence that a massive fireball falling from space some 66 million years ago was responsible for killing off the dinosaurs. Geologists have trekked to the region [Le Marche] since then to study that catastrophic event as well as others imprinted in these rocks. [...]

January is the perfect time to travel in Italy, as long as there is no rain or fog. On sunny days it is almost impossible to sit quietly home. The urge to explore comes over us, and off we go.
The first place on our agenda was Ascoli Piceno. We went there with our guests after January 6th to explore the sales. I love to shop in this city. First the city is absolutely gorgeous, second they have the nicest sales people, and finally they have great clothes, all within walking distance, with no car needed. Driving to Ascoli Piceno from Umbertide we pass the wildest looking territory. It is hard to believe that there will be a town in the mountains, much less one as stunning as this. [...]

In this local recipe from Pesaro (Le Marche) Italy beer is used instead of sugar. The addition of beer with milk and olive oil in the recipes, makes a soft dough with a crispy crust.
We used Collesi beer, a local, award-winning artisan beer from our neighboring village of Apecchio! All the Collesi beers - unpasturized, unfiltered, and naturally fermented in the bottle - are brewed in small batches

"Whilst in Le Marche, if you are coming to stay with us at The Hideaway, whatever you do, do not miss the La Conca experience. Mirela welcomes you to her wonderful agriturismo where you will sample dish after dish of her delicious home cooking.

With fresh herbs and vegetables from her beautiful orto, every dish is a taste explosion. A perfect setting, with an amazing host and fabulous food. You really will have a great time.

From the ever-changing talking menu, on our visit this time, for antipasti we sampled tasty speck, borlotti bean and garlic pate, a cured meat platter, fried sage leaves in the lightest of batters, fried courgette flowers, homemade cheeses with strawberry and rose petal jam and hot, delicious deep-fried breads so crispy and light.

There was still more to come – tasty pasta shells cooked in red wine filled with cottage cheese and chives garnished with borage flowers and pink peppercorns.

This was followed by amazing green nettle pasta with sausage cream sauce which was just fabulous, then homemade cannelloni filled with meat and herbs, grilled lamb served with roasted vegetables.

Dessert was a delicious type of alcoholic trifle and the whole meal accompanied with as much wine and water as you want. Our experience ended with a wonderful homemade thyme liqueur and coffee.

We will certainly be back, as will many of our guests who have sampled the wonders of Mirela and La Conca.

La Conca is open every day in the Summer for lunch and dinner, but you need to book in advance as everything is prepared specially for you.

Family holidays in the Marche, Italy | Ask the experts - Telegraph

Family holidays in the Marche, Italy | Ask the experts - Telegraph | Hideaway Le Marche | Scoop.it

Would you recommend the Marche region for a family holiday and what are the must-sees?
Tim Jepson, Italy expert, writes
The Marche is very pretty and has fewer visitors than Umbria, though its not exactly undiscovered these days. While it doesn't have quite the range of cultural highlights and quaint towns as Umbria, a town like Urbino (and nearby Urbania) is the equal of any in Italy for art, charm and history.
I also like Ascoli Piceno, which is also within striking distance of the region's finest scenery, the Monte Sibillini National Park.

For the most part, the Marche's landscape is one of high, rolling hills: high, but not quite mountains. The Sibillini are the exception - in Monte Vettore, they touch 2,476m.
It's a great country to tour by car (head to the Piano Grande, across the border in Umbria; and drive the SS78 road from Ascoli to Sarnano for the views), but the hiking is also excellent - obvious trails, decent maps (Kompass 666 Monti Sibillini) - with everything from easy strolls suitable for children to full-on backpacking.
If you're visiting in summer, virtually the entire coast is lined with small seaside resorts frequented by Italian families. If you want a classic, small-town, Italian seaside holiday, these are perfect. The beaches and sea are safe and good, without ever being spectacular, and while the hotels and towns are mostly modern, many have a small historic core. There's also all the usual ice cream shops, pizzerias, and spots for an evening passeggiata that make up the Italian summer.

Le Marche: Aromas, Flavors, Food, and Wine | Hideaway Le Marche | Scoop.it

[...] Both in Florence and Rome, as well as in the whole region of Le Marche, I recognized aromas that made me feel like I was in my own land, many of them from the present day, others from my childhood; not so in Venice, Bologna, or Siena.

In order to avoid a lengthy recounting, I want to write about my stay in Porto San Giorgio and every city in the region of Le Marche that I was able to visit. The food and the wine were fundamental factors of my well-being. In addition to having quality pastas, meats, fish, and vegetables in the markets, I was fortunate in also having great cooks. Another motif of the trip was the aromas, the likes of rosemary, sage, fresh oregano, mint, laurel, etc. These were the scents that would take me close to home, in every lunch or dinner in my journey throughout the area.
