Thinking about Thinking Optimizes Learning | #LEARNing2LEARN | Psychology Today! | #MetaCognition

Thinking about Thinking Optimizes Learning

Most teachers know that if students reflect on how they learn, they become better learners. For example, some students may think and process information best in a quiet library; others may focus better surrounded by familiar noise or music. Learning strategies that work for math may be different from those applied in the study of a foreign language. For some, it takes more time to understand biology than chemistry. With greater awareness of how they acquire knowledge, students learn to regulate their behavior to optimize learning. They begin to see how their strengths and weaknesses affect how they perform. The ability to think about one’s thinking is what neuroscientists call metacognition. As students’ metacognitive abilities increase, research suggests they also achieve at higher levels.

Metacognition plays an important role in all learning and life experiences. Beyond academic learning, when students gain awareness of their own mental states, they begin to answer important questions: How do I live a happy life? How do I become a respected human being? How do I feel good about myself? Through these reflections, they also begin to understand other people’s perspectives.

Teaching learners to think about their own "thinking" can be one of the most empowering tools. When learners engage in reflective thinking it develops a growth rather than a fixed mindset.

Highly qualified and competent teachers are fundamental for equitable and effective education systems. Teachers today are facing higher and more complex expectations to  help students reach their full potential and become valuable members of 21st century society. The nature and variety of these demands imply that teachers, more than ever before, must be professionals who make decisions based on a robust and updated knowledge base.

This publication presents research and ideas from multiple perspectives on pedagogical knowledge - the knowledge of teaching and learning - and the changing nature of the teaching profession. It provides a modern account of teachers’ professional competence, and how this relates to student learning. The report looks at knowledge dynamics in the teaching profession and investigates how teachers’ knowledge can be measured. It provides precious insights into 21st century demands on teacher knowledge.

In particular, this publication will be of interest to teacher educators, educational leaders, policy makers and the research community.

People tend to have clean and perfect surroundings and it is a must that everyone stays in an outstanding location that is clean. Scrubbing and cleaning the constructed buildings and the cleaning after the revocation work is to be handled carefully as this is one tedious task if handled in a wrong way. In this busy schedule many of us try to complete the task as per the time and missing the deadlines causes a great loss in several aspects. Hiring the professional experts is the only way to get the task completed as per the schedule. But it is a must to locate the professional expert who can assign a good team of professionals who are certified to clean the places. There are several experts who offer residential cleaning California along with many other friendly services that clean the complete area.

• Rely over the online research and then get the perfect solution for all your cleaning needs as the internet offers perfect solution which meets all your requirements. With the support of the team who work to meet all the expectations every cleaning task is completed according to the schedule and one can earn clean and shinning areas.

• The best part with the online research is that one can get a chance to request the vendors irrespective of the time and the team completes the work as per the deadline. The post renovation cleaning or the commercial cleaning involves cleaning each and every part of the building, but there is always a slight difference in the process of cleaning.

• The cleaning services are not just moping and dusting, but there is a lot to do under cleaning. There are several cleaning requirements which are only fulfilled under the guidance of an expert and the reliable sources support in offering a complete cleaning.

• They make sure that each and every particular of the building gets cleaned and the cleaning team typically fulfills all the requirements. But while picking a contractor look for the license and certification as it is a must to seek the support of a trustworthy vendor.

Earn amazing surroundings just by seeking the support of the cleaning team, which always offers the best services for all unexpected cleaning needs. So do a thorough research and then hire the professional expert who offers the janitorial services in Santa Clara as these are to be completed in a systematic manner.

Top 10 sites to help students check their facts - ISTE

Top 10 sites to help students check their facts - ISTE | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it
Our job as citizens requires more than just being informed. We must also be vigilant about verifying information before posting it on social media. While taking a second look at claims made by politicians and even journalists is a start, we still can’t outsource our brains and our judgment, says Tess Jolls, president of the Center for Media Literacy. “In my view, we have to look as critically at the fact-checking sites as we do the news articles themselves,” she says.

A good fact-checking site uses neutral wording, provides unbiased sources to support its claims and reliable links, says Frank Baker, author of Media Literacy in the K-12 Classroom and creator of the Media Literacy Clearinghouse. He adds, “Readers should apply the same critical thinking/questioning to fact-check sites.”

Here's a rundown of 10 of the top fact- and bias-checking sites to share with your students.

How the SAMR Model can be used a framework for Education 3.0

How the SAMR Model can be used a framework for Education 3.0 | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it

Education 3.0 is based on the belief that content is freely and readily available as is characteristic of Web 3.0. It is self-directed, interest-based learning where problem-solving, innovation and creativity drive education. Education 3.0 is also about the three Cs but a different set – connectors, creators, constructivists. These are qualitatively different than the three Cs of Education 2.0. Now they are nouns which translates into the art of being a self-directed learner rather than doing learning as facilitated by the educator.”

The SAMR model was developed by as a framework to integrate technology into the curriculum. (For reference, here’s a quick video–the SAMR model in 120 seconds.) I believe it can also serve as a model to establish and assess if and how technology is being used to reinforce an old, often archaic Education 1.0 or being used to promote and facilitate what many are calling 21st century skills, i.e., creativity, innovation, problem-solving, critical thinking; those skills characteristic of Education 3.0.

Gifted adults are different from an early age | High Ability  | Herramientas para investigadores | Scoop.it
One of the personal qualities that seems to be shared by most gifted children is being different and divergent – in terms of thinking, interests, values and behavior.

Many gifted adults feel “wrong” or anxious about “not fitting in” even though being different can be a strength, a positive attribute.

In her article “Counseling Gifted Adults – A Case Study”, counselor Paula Prober writes about Susan, who “had known that she was different since she was seven. Her thoughts and feelings had never fit into the box that was comfortable and reassuring for most children.

“Her appetite for learning was insatiable. Reading was more nourishing than food. Thinking, analyzing, and synthesizing were better than Barbie.

“And she worried about everything: poverty, world peace, and the loss of the rain forests. It kept her awake at night. The adults around her said that she was too young to be concerned with such things. That didn’t help. To her classmates, she just seemed weird–certainly not birthday party material.
