We have designed YOUNG&FUN, with the help of Ayurvedic doctors to help with healthy ageing, well-being and cognitive function. Many of the ingredients have component like Flavanols which have been reported in the scientific press and which appear to have some function in keeping us healthy for longer. In a paper by Mikutis et al, from the Jacobs University of Bremen in Germany, the nature of this phenomenon was investigated. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from Green Tea and a selection of theaflavins from black tea were combined with model cell nuclear structures (histone proteins, double stranded DNA and quadruplex DNA) and the resultant interactions investigated using mass spectrometry amongst other techniques. The selected polyphenols were shown to display affinity to all of the selected cell nuclear structures. In conclusion these data suggest the chemopreventive effect of tea against cancer and other chronic diseases, and a possible role & mechanism of tea phenolics in healthy ageing.
The results from a variety of clinical studies recently have shown that regular consumption of Green Tea could significantly reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke occurs when an artery to the brain is blocked. The brain depends on its arteries to bring fresh blood from the heart and lungs. The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain, and takes away carbon dioxide and cellular waste. If an artery is blocked, the brain cells (neurons) cannot make enough energy and will eventually stop working. If the artery remains blocked for more than a few minutes, the brain cells may die. This is why immediate medical treatment is critical. The Internet Stroke Center.
Simple Nutritional Regime for a Week of Exercise Cycling: Throughout the week I will take between 2 and 3 cups of InnOrbit Up&Go and/or Slim&Fit infusion (per day). Both of these drinks have natural ingredients which help to energise the body and reinvigorate the immune system. During the week I do between 60 and 120 km. So, I will need to be able to maintain my levels of energy. Long distance athletes like to train their bodies to burn fat….Slim&Fit has herbs like Caralluma fimbriata which can help with this. Depending on how I feel after these mid-week rides I may take a Calm&Relax drink to help with recovery and rest (ginger is packed with anti-inflammatory functionality which helps with muscle soreness etc.). When I feel like it, and there is time, I also take a Young&Fun infusion….I have to work too and sometimes I even think! Young&Fun is packed with ingredients that help to reinforce memory and help with mental agility.

High blood pressure or hypertension can cause strokes, heart and kidney diseases. It is called the “slient killer” because most of the time, there are no symptoms, but when high blood pressure goes untreated, it damages arteries and vital organs throughout the body by high blood pressure. There are some natural ingredients (e.g. Herbs & Spices) that can help but it is important to lead a healthy wider lifestyle too. The Products from the Wise Herb Company can help to complement a healthy lifestyle and potentially reduce hypertension.
“Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) is a biomarker for chronic inflammation and a sensitive risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. CRP has been reported to be related to food intake” Ock et al, The Journal of Nutrition (2008). Kobayashi et al examined the association between dietary total antioxidants and serum C-Reative Protein concentration in young Japanese women using different four assays. 443 young Japanese women aged 18–22 years were studied along with a self-administered diet questionnaire.
We have seen in the last few posts how Ayurvedic ingredients can really help in certain areas of our life. Four herbs or spices that could help with weight control are: Caralluma Garcinia Green tea Nutgrass (Cyperus Rotundus) Check the links out for more information. At InnOrbit we have designed Slim&Fit to contain these functional & natural ingredients and be tasty at the same time:
Extracts of hibiscus were tested on a model animal system and the mechanism of action involved in antidepressant activity was investigated by observing the effect of extract after pre-treatment with low doses of anti-depresant drugs.
In a recent article by Bachiega and Sforcin, in an animal model study, they suggest that lemongrass extracts can exert an anti-inflammatory action and may be involved in the inhibitory effects on cytokine production. They suggest that a possible mechanism involved in such results could be the inhibition of the transcription factor NF-κB. A similar result had also recently been shown here with comparable natural herbs. More evidence that natural ingredients like lemongrass can demonstrate an anti-imflammatory effect.
How does it work? About Caffeine Chemistry: Caffeine is believed to work by blocking adenosine receptors in the brain and other organs. This reduces the ability of adenosine to bind to the receptors, which would slow down cellular activity. The stimulated nerve cells release the hormone epinephrine (adrenaline), which increases heart rate, blood pressure, and blood flow to muscles, decreases blood flow to the skin and organs, and causes the liver to release glucose. Caffeine also increases levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine.

Two types of Ginger were investigated for a component – 1′-acetoxychavicol acetate (ACA) – which is naturally obtained from Ginger rhizomes and seeds. Ginger is noted for its anti...
The investigators conclude that accumulated evidence strongly suggests the non-toxic nature of the Neem glycoprotein and could be recommended for human use in anti-cancer therapy. Neem is a key natural ingredient of The Wise Herb Company range of beverages.
The objective of a study by Plengsuriyakarn et al was to investigate the cytotoxicity, toxicity, and anticancer activity of an extract of ginger (Zingiber officinale) against a certain type of cancer (Cholangiocarcinoma). Ginger: A key ingredient of the functional health drinks from The Wise Herb Company Various controlled trails were conducted in an animal model system. Results from these in vitro and in vivo investigations indicate that Ginger may have anticancer activity in this type of cancer. There was also absence of significant toxicity.
Glycyrrhizin is a bioactive component found in liquorice root. It is rapidly metabolized by gut bacteria into 18β- glycyrrhetinic acid. These compounds have been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity, amongst other benefits in vitro or in vivo. In a study by Hendricks et al, the ability of glycyrrhetinic acid to modulate immune responses of the small intestinal mucosa was studied in an animal model system.
Phenolic acids and flavonols like quercetin were identified in Hibiscus by Fernández-Arroyo et al. Phenolic acids have antioxidant activity. The study proposes that flavonol-conjugated forms (quercetin and kaempferol) may be the compounds responsible for the observed antioxidant effects and contribute to the healthy effects of Hibiscus extract. Diabetes and Sugar Control A study by Adisakwattana et al evaluated the intestinal alpha-glucosidase and pancreatic alpha-amylase inhibitory activities of several plants including Hibiscus. Their investigations suggest that Hibiscus could be useful for developing functional foods for treatment and prevention of diabetes mellitus due to its amylase inhibiting effects.
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a spice used widely as a medicinal plant in India and China. Ginger in medicinal herbal mixes has been proved to have antiviral activity against human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV). In a study by Chang et al, they tested the hypothesis that ginger can effectively decrease HRSV-induced plaque formation in respiratory mucosal cell lines.
Cardamom was evaluated by Verma et al for its anti-hypertensive potential and its effect on some of the cardiovascular risk factors in individuals with hypertension.
A study by Souza et al was made on Carvone a component of Mint. (-)-Carvone is a monoterpene found in Mint essential oil. In this study (-)-carvone anti-spasmodic effect was investigated in animal model system. The effect of (-)-carvone was compared with that of the classical calcium channel blocker verapamil. Carvone reduced the contractions induced and was almost 100 times more potent than verapamil. In conclusion (-)-carvone showed a typical and potent calcium channel blocker action. The effects described for both (-)-carvone and mint can be explained as a calcium channel blocker mode of action.
In a study, by Zukhurova et al, the neuroprotective effect of L-theanine, a Green Tea component in an animal model system after a stroke. The effect of L-theanine on brain injury during reperfusion was evaluated via neurological deficit and infarct size. The results suggest that L-theanine substantially reduced the size of brain infarct and neurological status was improved when L-theanine was administered. Repeated intrastriatal injections of L-theanine at a total dose of 800 µg/kg during reperfusion prevented brain injury caused by glutamate receptor agonists. Neurosoup The investgators conclude that L-theanine at reperfusion exerts neuroprotective effect in the in vivo animal stroke model. Treatment with L-theanine at reperfusion also helps to prevent brain injury.
The molecular mechanisms involved were studied on human breast cancer cell lines. The cancer growth inhibitory effect of nimbolide was assessed and Apoptosis induction was determined Treatment with the Neem component resulted in dose and time-dependent inhibition of growth of cancer cells. The occurrence of apoptosis in these cells was also suggested They conclude that Nimbolide induces the cleavage of pro-caspase-8, pro-caspase-3 and PARP and induces apoptosis by both the intrinsic and extrinsic pathways. They suggest that the Neem component nimbolide exhibits anticancer effect through its apoptosis-inducing property and could be potentially used as a anticancer therapy.
A reduced risk of breast cancer associated with dietary intake of certain classes of flavonoids has been proposed. The effects of flavonoids on survival, however, are not known. A population-based study of breast cancer patients, was investigated by Fink et al on if dietary flavonoid intake before diagnosis is associated with subsequent survival
