Twenty-First-Century Energy Wars: Global Conflicts Are Fueled by the Desire for Oil

Twenty-First-Century Energy Wars: Global Conflicts Are Fueled by the Desire for Oil | Global Oil | Scoop.it

Iraq, Syria, Nigeria, South Sudan, Ukraine, the East and South China Seas: wherever you look, the world is aflame with new or intensifying conflicts.  At first glance, these upheavals appear to be independent events, driven by their own unique and idiosyncratic circumstances.  But look more closely and they share several key characteristics -- notably, a witch’s brew of ethnic, religious, and national antagonisms that have been stirred to the boiling point by a fixation on energy.

In a fossil-fuel world, control over oil and gas reserves is an essential component of national power.

Fresh attack on Yes case amid new oil figures

Fresh attack on Yes case amid new oil figures | Global Oil | Scoop.it

Peter A Bell's curator insight, July 11, 2014 6:59 AM

When the Scottish Government revised its oil revenue projections to update the figures in the White Paper the Tory/Labour anti-independence alliance were all in a frenzy shouting about how this adjustment to take account of new data "proved" that the SNP's figures couldn't be trusted. But when the OBR change their estimates for no evident reason other than the needs of Project Fear we are supposed to take their figures as totally reliable.

Just how gullible do these British nationalists think we are?
