100 Hoopties

100 Hoopties | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

Graphic designer and cyclist Jennifer Beatty has found a way to bridge her two identities in a creatively-challenging way. Her series 100 Hoopties is a design project where every day for 100 days she recreates an iconic poster design with scrapped bicycle parts. The images are a way that the avid cyclist can upcycle her collection of bike-related objects and use her artistic skills to create something that’s unusual, engaging, and fun.

Using bike chains, cables, inner tubes, and other parts, Beatty forms the contours of icons in popular culture.

The chains seem to be especially helpful for crafting a bold outline, while things like red reflectors add accent color.

Luis Quiles

Luis Quiles | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

Spanish artist, Luis Quiles, is known for causing splash after splash with his controversial artwork, which reveals the ugly side of society. Quiles is unafraid to pick up touchy topics like sexism, exploitation, violence, and homophobia; in fact it is one of his passions. Combining his art skills and in depth thoughts about society, Quiles creates art with a punch.

What causes Luis Quiles’ art to be so controversial is that it is so raw and blunt, and often revolves around the type of truths people don’t like to discuss, let alone admit. For some people, Quiles’ images spark feelings of disgust or terror, but within each work there is a story being told, a fear being shared, and something for everyone to take away.

Quiles artwork combines real-life events with current affairs, references to pop culture, technology, and more. Sometimes one of his images will appear innocent, until you look a little closer to see what is really going on.

Recently, Quiles has shared he will eventually be taking all of his art down from Deviantartbecause they have been censoring much of his artwork, despite the fact he has not broken any terms of agreement.

Mr Cenz

Mr Cenz | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

Mr Cenz has been scribbling on surfaces since 1988 when he first discovered hip-hop culture and graffiti art. He soon became obsessed with this new and exciting art form and after a few brushes with the law he decided to find ways of developing his skills legally. Since his first commissioned mural at 11yrs old he has continued progressing and experimenting with his art and set up his own company Positive Arts. This has led to a career as a professional graffiti artist, several solo shows in London and high profile commissions internationally.

His distinctive work can currently be seen all over streets of London. It features layers of intricate and flowing letterforms, shapes and line work, which are abstracted in a unique and aesthetically pleasing way. His style is full of funk and movement and fuses different skills together such as photorealism, illustration and graffiti letterforms. His work is open to individual interpretation and has been described as surrealist graffiti art for the soul. He works hard to make sure each piece he creates is very individual and distinctive in its quality. His influences range from the old school graffiti artists that inspired him as a kid such as Dondi and Mode 2 to abstract expressionist painters like Paul Klee and Roger Hilton.

His new work focuses on female faces, which he distorts in his trademark style. He works from portrait and fashion photographs to create unique interpretations, which are abstracted in a spontaneous and freestyle way to create interesting and mysterious compositions. Theses pieces are a melting pot of all the different influences and technical skills he has acquired over the years.

From the quality of a meeting can be born a big project: Brassart, grouping of art schools applied and the Group Delcourt, the first French independent editor in comic strips, present a Grande École dedicated to the art and to the businesses for the comic strip right in the heart of Paris.

More than a school, the Academy is before  a spirit of workshop: a place where the individual work evolves in the course of tutorial classes, in atmosphere and in corporatism.

The collaboration between students and the regular production of boards and illustrations are essential in the evolution of the members of every promotion. The personal work, overseen by the trainers and the regular speakers stemming from the professional world, benefits from a follow-up and from constant advice for a better initiation into the jobs by the comic strip.

It is with the same objective as the establishment is frequently visited by editorial persons in charge, to weave the first relations authors-publishers necessary for a better way to the professional world: the career of the future authors begins there from the first day.

Ink Dwell’s mission is to inspire people to love and protect the Earth one work of art at a time.

A play on words, Ink Dwell studio makes art that is “inked well”, and specializes in creating fine art, environmental campaigns, exhibitions and science illustrations. Merging classical techniques of science illustration with modern simplicity.

Scientific illustrator Jane Kim spent over 16 months painting one member from each of the world's 243 modern bird families. To make this feat even more impressive, Kim painted the individual birds to scale in her 40-foot by 70-foot mural. It all began when she was interning at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the program's director approached her with this in-depth idea. Immediately, the artist agreed to take on this exhaustive venture and, along the way, she developed a unique relationship with each bird she painted..

Kim also included 26 extinct species by depicting them as ghosted imagery. The disappearing technique adds a thought-provoking element to her mural, causing viewers to reflect on why and how these environmental changes have occurred.

KABUL ART PROJECT supports and promotes Contemporary Afghan Art across the boarders.

Isana Yamada 山田勇魚

Isana Yamada 山田勇魚 | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

Isana Yamada’s tranquil graduation project is drawing the attention of admirers inside and outside the classroom. The Tokyo University of the Arts student recently revealed his creative submission for his school’s final exhibition. The piece, 輪廻 Samsara, depicts six whales "swimming" in an arching circle, meant to symbolize the circle of existence. Onlookers were captivated by the intricate display, each whale transparent enough to provide a glimpse of an entire world contained within its body.

As the whales float through space, they are meant to symbolize the “order of things in the world” according to Buddhist traditions. The piece explores the cycle of death and rebirth as illustrated through the circular theory of the six realms. Each whale in the exhibit symbolizes a distinct path on the route towards reincarnation. According to Buddhist beliefs, every being is born into one of six states of existence, and all are contained within this wheel of life where death and rebirth occurs over and over, until enlightenment is achieved.

Yamada's creative piece explores a rich concept in an aesthetically pleasing way. His life-like whales are created out of resin, and within each sculpture a mesmerizing miniature world of clouds, trees, and volcanoes beckons the gaze of an audience. His work visually explains an ancient aspect of Japanese mentality, and will be on display (yet again) at the Artcomplex Center of Tokyo, starting March 1, 2016.

The Illustrated Gallery

The Illustrated Gallery | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

The illustrated gallery did not start from the desire to create a commercial venture. Instead, it developed organically as a natural outgrowth of one man’s love and devotion to the art, and a private collection that, quite simply, got out of hand.

When all of the residence walls were completely covered to the ceiling, with paintings in rows vertically as well as horizontal, it was evident something had to be done. There just was no more room for newly acquired works and yet, the joy collecting this art brought the collector was not to be denied. The time had come to seriously review the situation and determine a new route for the passion to continue to express itself.

It made sense that the best way to continue to satisfy this desire and evoke even more joy was to spread the happiness around by transforming this now 300+ private collection into a public offering thereby sharing it with a larger audience. It is from that motivation and intent that the illustrated gallery was created May 1998.

Things moved along when the passionate collector, Jordan Berman, turned to his granddaughter Holly and asked her to become his partner in this venture. Together they opened a downtown Philadelphia gallery in addition to a Fort Washington location.
