Vivian Maier

Vivian Maier | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it

Vivian Maier (February 1, 1926 – April 21, 2009) was an American street photographer born in New York City. Although born in the U.S., it was in France that Maier spent most of her youth. Maier returned to the U.S. in 1951 where she took up work as a nanny and care-giver for the rest of her life. In her leisure however, Maier had begun to venture into the art of photography. Consistently taking photos over the course of five decades, she would ultimately leave over 100,000 negatives, most of them shot in Chicago and New York City. Vivian would further indulge in her passionate devotion to documenting the world around her through homemade films, recordings and collections, assembling one of the most fascinating windows into American life in the second half of the twentieth century.

Zelinsky continues to balance tradition with ingenuity in his Private Label Guitars. Presented herein are instruments that embody Zelinsky’s 38 years of experience. With breakthrough concepts like the Patented “Z-Glide” neck and the ultra-thin single cutaway Zenyatta, Zelinsky has once again taken the function and design of guitar a bit further.

In 1961, Michel Mourlet takes the direction of the magazine Présence du cinéma, which becomes then the place of expression of the ideas of the movement of the mac-mahoniens until 19668.
In 1983, the film-maker Pascal Kané makes scandal by representing in his movie Liberty Belle to mac-mahonien in auxiliary(aid, assistant) of the OAS.
During the sixties, the American cinema continued to make the beautiful days of the Mac Mahon and triumphed with its comedies musicales.
It is in 1987 when the Mac Mahon is resumed by Axel Brücker who will manage the room during twenty years and who makes it a place of festivals and presentation of movies in previews.

Carl Warner was born in Liverpool, England in 1963. At the age of seven he moved to Kent with his parents and as an only child spent hours in his bedroom listening to music, drawing and creating worlds from his imagination, inspired by the posters on his walls by artists such as Salvador Dali and Patrick Woodroofe and the record sleeve designs of Roger Dean and the work of Hipgnosis. Carl began his career by going to Maidstone College of Art with a view to becoming an illustrator as he had a good talent for drawing, but he quickly discovered that his ideas and creative eye was better suited to photography as he saw it as a faster and more exciting medium in which to work. After a year’s foundation course at the college he moved to the London College of Printing in 1982 to do a three year degree course in photography, film and television.

VIC-LEE

VIC-LEE | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it
London artist Vic Lee is creating a collection of limited edition prints of some of Londons best streets. Some are well known and others are places you stumble across, one thing they have in common is that they all offer locals and visitors alike the chance to enjoy the offerings available. Vic chooses areas that still retain independent shops and business - local cafes, restaurants, hardware stores, mini marts etc, but as is the way interspersed with some high street names too. These places he calls his Londonereas - Londoners areas. Initially creating the print Lordship Lane in the quietly cool East Dulwich, the first prints sold very quickly. This showed how proud Londoners become of the areas they live, and inspired Vic to continue drawing and printing. Recommendations came in thick and fast and Vic found himself travelling and documenting streets all over London. From Northcote Road in Battersea, to Church Street in Stoke Newington, Clifton Road in Maida Vale to Exmouth Market in Clerkenwell. South, North, West and East. And it became apparent that many areas were almost secretive to those that lived in these gems of London. Each print is hand pulled by Vic using the screen printing process onto 100% cotton paper. It is important for Vic to retain traditional methods of production, from freehand illustrating to screen printing as his work has a Victorian look with a contemporary twist. This is clearly shown in Vics historical research, which blends the old with the new and has added humour.

Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy

Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it
The existence of an active film club in Savoie, combined with its leading members being in close contact with the team at the Journées du cinéma event, made it a lot easier to set up the Journées internationales du cinéma d’animation (Jica) in Annecy, with Pierre Barbin as Executive Director and André Martin and Michel Boschet, Assistant Officers of the event.
In 1956, the heads of the film club, Henry Moret and Georges Gondran, were at Cannes to take part in the first Jica held in conjunction with the main festival. From the meeting of these two teams, the seeds of an idea were sewn to set up a festival devoted to animation in Annecy. With its proximity to Geneva and airport, the presence of a theatre and a receptive audience due to the work of the film club, the town presented many advantages and in 1959, the town council voted to host the event.
In 1960, Annecy held the 3rd Jica and the Festival became competitive. Meanwhile, the foundations of an international animation film association (Asifa) were being laid and the concept of animation gradually institutionalised. In 1963, to counter competition, the Festival moved to odd years. The following year, an agreement was concluded with ASIFA confirming the biennial nature of the Annecy Festival, and gradually the codes of a major event were put in place with a strict selection process, tributes, retrospectives, publications, exhibitions, special guests and the presence of 25 delegations from abroad.
At the beginning of 1968, the appointment of Pierre Barbin as artistic director of the Cinémathèque française, replacing Henri Langlois, followed by his resignation in April, triggered a major national situation. The following year, the Festival did not take place as the CNC were not in a position to give financial support. The State became involved, through the Minister for Cultural Affairs, André Malraux, who proposed to abandon the event.

Consuelo de Saint Exupery

Consuelo de Saint Exupery  | Heart is a Lock, Music is the Key | Scoop.it
Consuelo de Saint Exupéry, officially Consuelo Suncín, comtesse de Saint Exupéry, (born Armenia, El Salvador on 10 April 1901; died Grasse, France on 18 May 1979) was a Salvadoran-French writer and artist, and the wife of the French aristocrat, writer and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (1900–1944).
Born Consuelo Suncín de Sandoval as the daughter of a rich coffee grower and army reservist, she grew up in a family of wealthy landowners in a small town in the Salvadoran department of Sonsonate. Due to her asthma, her father sent her abroad to the United States, where she studied in San Francisco; later she studied in Mexico City, and also in France. Her first marriage was to a Mexican army captain, Ricardo Cardenas, whom she met in the United States. Though this marriage ended in divorce, she lied and said it ended with his death during the Mexican Revolution, since divorced women were then stigmatized by society, and being a widow was preferable to being a divorced woman. While in France, she met and later married Enrique Gómez Carrillo, a Guatemalan writer, diplomat and journalist. Following his death in 1927, she took up residence in Buenos Aires. In 1931, she met and married the French aristocrat, writer and pioneering aviator Count Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, making her a countess. At the time Consuelo was a twice-widowed Salvadoran writer and artist who possessed a bohemian spirit and was known as a mischief-maker. Saint-Exupéry, thoroughly enchanted by the diminutive woman, would leave and then return to her many times; she was both his muse and over the long term the source of much of his angst. It was a stormy union, with Saint-Exupéry travelling frequently and indulging in numerous extramarital affairs, most notably with the Frenchwoman Hélène de Vogüé (1908–2003), known as 'Nelly' and referred to as "Madame de B." in Saint-Exupéry biographies. Consuelo also had numerous extramarital affairs. Following the disappearance of her husband in July 1944, with her loss of Saint-Exupéry still fresh, she purportedly wrote a memoir of their life together, The Tale of the Rose, which was sealed away in a trunk in her home. Two decades after her death in 1979, the manuscript came to light when José Martinez-Fructuoso, her heir and long-time employee, and his wife, Martine, discovered it in an attic trunk. Alan Vircondelet, author of a biography of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, edited it, improving her French and dividing it into chapters. Its publication in France in 2000, one century after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's birth on 29 June 1900, became a national sensation. As of 2011 it had been translated into sixteen languages. Consuelo died on 28 May 1979 and is buried in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, alongside her second husband Enrique Carrillo. The body of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is not known to have been recovered following his wartime death.
