See the previous scoop.  Established medicine is stuck in a treadmill of reductionist science that tries to find high level abstract patterns through the components of food, and not the foods themselves.  This is like trying to derive a Periodic Table of the Elements that can predict and treat all diseases through the sorting of a few basic elements.  Leading edge medicine is acknowledging the phenomenal differences between similar groups of food components that affect the body very differently, despite the similarity of parts.  A good example is the so called paleo grains versus the modern hybridized counterparts.  Chemically they are similar.  In the body they have very different careers.

This treadmill results in absurdities such as two contemporary research findings taking opposite stands on the role of low-carb diets.  "Low-carb diet" is a dangerous abstraction in the context of popular knowledge.
