Jon Z. Bennington's curator insight, October 24, 2013 4:35 PM

This article "hits the nail on the head" as far as the main cause of divorce in America. We view it as not a big deal. Divorce is considered easy and a way to instant gratification if our level of happiness is not constantly maintained. We don't mind going to battle, we just do not want to go to war, but war is typically what it takes to achieve victory. A marriage is one of the most if not the most difficult "responsibility" to have in life. It takes someone of true grit and iron resolve to be willing to go the whole way "until death do us part." I failed the first time, I do not plan on failing the second.

Zhiyang Liang's curator insight, January 20, 2014 9:14 AM

Nowadays, raising a child is a quite great programme and it needs to cost a lot such as school fee, tuition fee etc. Not so many people in the United State are wealthier enough to have abilities to afford several children’s daily expenditures. And also lacking of standard knowledge or computer skills, it is very hard for children to find work when their grown up. Thus American would rather choose to raise less and successful children then raise more and mediocre children.

May's comment, January 30, 2014 7:46 AM
I agree with Zhi Yang that raising a child is not easy. It's hard and it's expensive too. One child alone will have school fee, daily expenditures, clothings etc. It is not uncommon that doing well in studies is associated with whether you are poor or not. And yes, single mothers have the hardest times raising children. And more and more jobs nowadays are now less fond of employing single mothers as they are afraid they would not balance child and work. Single mothers then have a hard time getting jobs leading to a hard time raising a child and the cycle goes on ?

Jon Z. Bennington's curator insight, October 24, 2013 3:51 PM

Divorce is a common theme in our society. With divorcees making up a large part of the population, so it is understandable that there are many remarriages. It seems according to statistics and research within this article that just because you have been married before, you are not necessarily any better at it the second, third, or whatever time it may be. The trend of less divorcees getting rehitched shows just how little faith they have in the institution of marriage and the lack of optimism about it lasting forever. I would say that being divorced does not make you truly cynical or entirely negative, it is more of being honest and real about what you have to gain and what you have to lose.
