Teach every child about food

Teach every child about food | Technology Curriculum and Healthy Eating | Scoop.it
Sharing powerful stories from his anti-obesity project in Huntington, W. Va., TED Prize winner Jamie Oliver makes the case for an all-out assault on our ignorance of food.
Michelle Thompson's insight:

This 18 minute video is profound. It reveals how little our children know about food and what is in it, and how many children cannot name everyday fruits and vegetables correctly, or know how to cook them. Jamie is convincing and his talk on obesity is enlightening.

Suitable for the early years ABC Splash offers a great clip to enable early years students to consider where our food comes from and how it reaches our table! Students can consider how we farm for a purpose and explore the life cycle of farming animals to make food for our dinner tables.

Through the site From Paddock to Plate a series of topics are available which explore growing crops,  farming animals, harvesting and processing and food production. There is an abundance of information, resources, clips and lesson ideas which can be utilised to teach students about farming practices and the processes involved to produce familiar products.
