Not quite of this world and more like a mirage but still awe inspiring to look at. In my imagination I go back 20 years when this was likely a nondescript and possilby dilapdtated building. Then somebody with imagination and certainly deep pockets came along.

(EN) - Glossary of Medical Devices and Procedures: Abbreviations, Acronyms, and Definitions | Tim B. Hunter, MD and Mihra S. Taljanovic, MD | Healthcare Interior Design at St. Kate's | Scoop.it

"The abbreviations, acronyms, and words included in this glossary represent medical device and procedure terminology found in everyday practice. Also included are many colloquial terms and abbreviations frequently encountered on requisitions for radiologic services or in daily conversation. These terms were purposely included because they are often not defined in standard medical texts or dictionaries.

The definitions presented herein are the authors’ own, but we believe they conform to general usage. Some meanings vary from locale to locale and from specialty to specialty. Often, terms now in general medical usage originated from the name of a manufacturer or inventor of a particular device. Over time, these terms have acquired a generic meaning of their own, now being applied to a class of devices with the original meaning lost. Examples of this phenomenon include the Jackson-Pratt drain, the Hickman catheter, the Broviac catheter, the Swan-Ganz catheter, the Dobbhoff tube, and the ..."

Healthcare Practitioners Stories Can Aid Medical Device Designers

Healthcare Practitioners Stories Can Aid Medical Device Designers | Healthcare Interior Design at St. Kate's | Scoop.it
Healthcare laws to protect patients’ privacy make it nearly impossible for medical device designers to develop and test the safety and usability of medical products by observing use in an actual practitioner-patient setting.

Here's a perfect example of a very practical application for business storytelling. Forget traditional focus groups and standardized questions. If you really want to know what's in the hearts and minds of your customers, if you really want to know how they experience your product/service, ask them for stories. As this article shows, you get so much more rich useable information it blows the other info gathering methods out of the water.

Here's the secret to effective business storytelling -- it's not in your telling, it's in your listening to the stories of others. It's all about story sharing.

How do you ask for a story? DON'T ask for a description -- you'll only get information. Do ask, "Tell me about a time when ... " or "Tell me what happened when ..." You'll get amazing material.

Try it .... you'll like it!

The Road to Flexibility in Healthcare Design: Adaptability, Transformability, and Convertibility

The Road to Flexibility in Healthcare Design: Adaptability, Transformability, and Convertibility | Healthcare Interior Design at St. Kate's | Scoop.it

Historically, efforts toward flexible architecture have focused on building typologies outside of the healthcare sector, which tend to be less regulated and are less influenced by operational processes. Two modern theories by Peter Eisenman and Mies van der Rohe recognize infrastructure elements such as columns, vertical circulation, and floor penetrations as fixed and unchangeable components.
