What mHealth can do for you

What mHealth can do for you | Healthcare Apps & News Repository | Scoop.it

@NeelieKroesEU, Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for the Digital Agenda, said: "mHealth is just one of the benefits of a #ConnectedContinent – helping patients, doctors and carers take control, wherever they are. From simple apps which help you stick to your exercise regime – to monitoring tools for those on kidney dialysis. I am delighted that the EU is so committed to this fascinating area. The EU has already invested over €100 million, with about €95 million up for grabs over the next two years. And we are now consulting on how best to unlock the huge potential of mobile healthcare."

OScan. Screening tool for oral lesions | Healthcare Apps & News Repository | Scoop.it

The OScan team at Stanford University has developed an affordable screening tool that brings standardized, multi-modal imaging of the oral cavity into the hands of rural health workers around the world, allowing individuals to conduct screenings for oral lesions. This inexpensive device mounts on a conventional camera phone and allows for data to be instantly transmitted to dentists and oral surgeons. OScan aims to empower minimally-skilled health workers to connect early stage patients to health care providers and teach communities about the importance of oral hygiene.

A number of companies, however, have been snapped up. This past week alone has brought about the announcement of three acquisition deals.

Here’s a quick round-up of the digital health M&A deals so far in 2013...

This is the first public release of the Health Apps Library which was launched by the NHS Commissioning Board in March 2013. It aims to make it simpler for people to find safe and trusted apps to help them manage their health

We consider a Health App to be a program for your mobile phone, tablet or a website that helps you manage your health. These must be for use by the public rather than clinicians.

Apps listed in the Health Apps Library can help improve health and reduce cost by:

providing informationproviding the ability to transact with health and social care servicesmonitoring health and care and/or supporting health and care decisions.

Listed Apps will have go through an appropriate level of clinical safety and quality vetting, with users (both health professionals and the public) able to rate and comment on the usefulness of individual apps.

Meet Stat, The Startup That Wants To Be Uber For Medical Transport

Meet Stat, The Startup That Wants To Be Uber For Medical Transport | Healthcare Apps & News Repository | Scoop.it

The process works for organizations that need to send people to hospitals, too — nursing homes for instance often need to shuttle residents to medical facilities and not all of them can afford to maintain a fleet of vehicles just for that. Enter Stat: after a few touches, the nearest idle ambulance will be en route to make the pickup and drop those people off as needed. It’s a win-win: idle ambulances (and the companies that own them) get more work, and people who otherwise would’ve been stuck at a facility or turned away outright can get their procedures done and get home safely.

How consumers might find digital health tools

How consumers might find digital health tools | Healthcare Apps & News Repository | Scoop.it

Or, perhaps, if you believe that digital health tools are a new product category: How do consumers even hear about all these digital health tools in the first place? The discoverability problem is a big one, but there are many new and existing players doing something about it.
