Processed foods hide some dirty secrets. Here's how to avoid them.
In addition to including phosphate laden ingredients, most processed foods also offer very little in the way of nutrition and come with a sizeable caloric price tag. Give your body good nutrition and miraculous things can happen in terms of weight loss, energy, and relief from a myriad of ailments. I love my Herbalife shakes because they provide nutrition at a bargain of a caloric price tag - they are low in fat, sugar, and high in fiber.
On average, we take in 363 calories of added sweeteners a day. Adding that many empty calories to a day’s worth of meals could send you over the calorie-limit cliff. To cut down, look for ways to nix added sugar at every meal.
One thing that strikes me about so many posts on health and nutrition is the time, effort, rules, and guidelines set up to accomplish some diet related goal, whether it is cutting sugar or cutting fat. As I read these I think - yeah...you could be vigilent at every meal and watch everything you eat for its various components or you could just replace one or two regular meals with an Herbalife shake which contains 24 grams of protein and 20 vitmains and minerals and very little salt, sugar or fat. Don't we all hate the dreaded weight loss plateau? I sure do! To the list here I would add don't forget that you may still be losing inches even if the scale isn't budging. That happened to me recently. It may also be true that your body is simply rearranging things - building lean muscle faster than it is burning fat, which will look like a weight gain or a weight plateau. I'd encourage everyone to get a body scan like the kind we offer at Fired Up! Nutrition. Getting that scan allows you to know how much of your weight is fat and how much is muscle so that you can see the shifts in each that occur over time.
Yes, I'm eating mindlessly. Now what?
I've worked with mindful eating for a long time - lost 100 pounds at one point doing nothing other than only eating when i was physically hungry and stopping when I was physically satisfied. The problem for me using this approach is that it takes a tremendous amount of focus. Replacing a couple of meals a day with healthy shakes seems to curb a lot of the cravings for less healthy things and it seems to help the focus on hunger and satiety as well.
