Monsoon brings with itself several aliments like diarrhea, food poison, gastric problem, etc. Now the genuine question arises what are the vegetables one should eat to save him or her from any kind of bad health problem in the sensitive monsoon month. Well the answer is very simple it is the healthy papaya that acts as a doctor for our body if we eat it every alternate day along with other seasonal vegetables.

Medicinal Value of Papaya-
Papaya or Pawpaw cultivation has its origin in south Mexico and Costa Rica, but today India is the leading producer of this magical fruit (vegetable) worldwide. This amazing tropical fruit can be found in markets throughout the year. This beautiful food has a minefield of nutrition in each of its segment. It is a rich source of vitamin C , A and often recommended for glowing skin & to prevent acne. Apart from being rich in carotenoid, folate and dietary fiber, it contains a significant amount of the soluble and sticky fiber papain, an enzyme that effectively digests protein foods and helps prevent constipation. The fruit is well known for its nutritive quotient of balancing blood sugar, prevent hunger pangs, and improves blood cholesterol as well as quite effective as an antioxidant and helps in fight back cancer. It also reduces inflammation and pain in conditions like osteoarthritis. The green or raw papayas have even higher nutritional values as compared to the ripe one. This is because the process of ripening reduces the amount of papain. It is interesting to note that papain is used to tenderize meat and in the manufacture of chewing gum too. The wonder of the fruit are not done yet as it is pretty vital for weight loss.  The use of it varies across the globe. Its seeds are edible too as it has a peppery taste and very popular in Indonesia. Finally small babies can get a lot of benefits as they eat Papaya in their daily diet. It increases the blood count, makes bones & muscles stronger, helps to retain perfect eyesight, plays a pivotal role in the development of the brain, exceptional benefits in digestion, act as a natural laxative, fights back skin ulcers etc. On a complete ground it’s a good source of folate, vitamin C and widely known for its anthelmintic reasons.

Spicy Papaya Curry-

Boiled Potatoes -400 grams,Papaya-200 grams,Salt according to tasteCoriander powder,Turmeric powder,Tandoori powder,Kashmiri chili powder,Cumin Powder,Sugar half tea spoon,Garam masala powder,Two tablespoon oil,Two onions chopped,Two tablespoon garlic, ginger and tomato paste.

Method- Heat the oil in a wok or kadahi. Then add the sugar and let it popup in the kadahi, immediately add the chopped onions and let it fry for few minutes. When the onions turn into golden color add the ginger, garlic and tomato paste and fry well, then put all the dry spice powders and salt and fry well. As the spices leaves the side of the wok and oil comes up add the washed long sliced pieces of papaya and fry well in the spices. Add some water to make sure the masala doesn’t stick into the wok.  Finally add the boiled potatoes and some water into the curry. Let it boil for 10 minutes. Take it off from flame and add garam masala to the curry. Decorate with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice or paratha.

Well these are the popular dishes comprising the unique fruit or let’s say vegetable. It is treated as a vegetable in its raw form. Little wonder that it was worshipped by the Mayans who considered it as the “tree of life”.  Research says that even Christopher Columbus has enjoyed its fine taste during his discovery travel.  So love it as it is one of the finest ingredients for a mouth watering recipe. A daily bowlful of healthy papaya is the right food for everybody except pregnant women.

The Diverse Goodness of Amla -

The Diverse Goodness of Amla - | Health Tips | Scoop.it

Winter is coming and the early selling of Gooseberry is on. Not only has this as Amla had new versions like Amla candy, chocolates and more. Today we shall discuss more regarding the goodness of Amla known also as Gooseberry. Known popularly for its extensive vitamin c-content, food absorption, balances stomach acid, fortifies the liver, nourishes the brain and mental functioning, supports the heart, strengthens the lungs, regulates elimination of free radicals, enhances fertility, helps the urinary system, increases skin health, promotes healthier hair, acts as a body coolant, flushes out toxins, increases vitality, strengthens eyes, improves muscle tone and, acts as an antioxidant.

The Indian Gooseberry belongs to the Euphorbiaceous family. This fruit ripens in the autumn in wet, forested, hilly areas on the Indian subcontinent. In India it is considered a sacred tree. The fruit is very nourishing, but it tastes sour. Both dried and fresh fruits can be consumed for their health benefits. It provides remedies for many diseases, so it is widely used in Ayurvedic treatment. Gooseberry is very rich in Vitamin C, and contains many minerals and vitamins like Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Carotene and Vitamin B Complex. Amla is also a powerful antioxidant agent.

Many health problems are caused by oxidative damage (when body cells use oxygen, they produce by-products called free radicals that can cause damage). Antioxidant agents prevent and repair these damages. Vitamin-C is a good antioxidant agent, which makes gooseberries a powerful tool against a variety of conditions, including various types of cancer.

Health Benefits of Amla

Hair Care: Amla is used in many hair tonics because it augments hair growth and hair pigmentation. It fortifies the roots of hair, maintains color, and improves lustre. Eating fresh gooseberry or applying its paste on hair roots improves hair growth and color. Amla oil is very popular in India because it has been shown to diminish the risks of hair loss and lack of hair. This feature is due to the carotene content of Amla, as well as its iron content and general antioxidant capacity, which shrinks hair loss by not permitting free radicals to harm hair follicles or influence the hormones that can cause untimely hair loss.

Eye Care: Consumption of Gooseberry juice with honey is good for improving eyesight, as well as diminishing near-sightedness and cataracts, while reducing intra-ocular tension. This is mainly due to its remarkable content of carotene, which has long been known for their influential effect on vision-related conditions, including those that stem from free radical activity. Vitamin A and carotenes reduce macular degeneration, night blindness, and strengthen your vision before the age-related degeneration from free radicals can occur!

Calcium Absorption: One of the less discussed benefits of Amla is how it helps the body absorb calcium in a positive way. Calcium is an essential component of our bones, teeth, and nails, and also ensures that we have beautiful lustrous hair. So, eating a vitamin C-rich fruit like Indian gooseberries is a great way to keep your body looking and feeling great!

Metabolic Activity: Eating foods that are high in protein is one of the most important ways to stay healthy, since proteins are an essential part of our body’s metabolic activities. Our enzymes can breakdown plant proteins into amino acids and reassemble them into usable proteins for our body. Protein is necessary for cellular growth, muscle development, organ health, and a wide range of other metabolic activities that we need to remain healthy and happy!

Menstrual Cramps: Some of the minerals and vitamins in Alma combine to make it very useful in the treatment of menstrual cramps. Since it takes a while for the necessary elements to accrue in the body, it is better to consume Alma on a regular basis so it is always in the system and menstrual cramps can be prevented every month for women.

Diabetes: Gooseberry contains chromium, which has a therapeutic value for diabetic patients. Indian Gooseberry stimulates the isolated group of cells that secrete the hormone insulin, thereby reducing blood sugar in diabetic patients and keeping their body balanced and healthy. When blood sugar is reduced, it means that glucose is also being used by the cells as functional energy, so the metabolism is stronger and you have more energy, without the plunges and spikes in blood sugar that are so dangerous for diabetic patients. Chromium also enhances the effect of beta-blockers, which are used for heart health, by reducing the LDL cholesterol content of the body.

Diuretic Activity: Besides being a fruit that is very high in water, Amla is also slightly diuretic in nature. This means that it increases the frequency and volume of urination. Urination helps our body eliminate unwanted toxins and excess levels of water, salts, and uric acid. Furthermore, it can help you lose weight, since up to 4% of urine is actually composed of fat. Therefore, a diuretic substance is always necessary for keeping our kidneys healthy, and also preventing urinary infections and uterine infections. Alma is a great way to do this!

Digestion: Alma is very high in fibre, like most fruits. Fibre adds bulk to the stool and helps food move through the bowels and keeps your bowel movements regular. This reduces the chances of constipation, and fibre can also bulk up loose stools and reduce diarrhoea. Fibre also stimulates the secretion of gastric and digestive juices, so food is digested efficiently, nutrients are absorbed in an optimal way, and you feel lighter and healthier. Reducing constipation can also help protect your from various gastrointestinal disorders, even colorectal cancer!

Heart Disease: As mentioned above, gooseberry strengthens the heart muscles, so the heart pumps blood smoothly throughout the body. By reducing excess cholesterol build-up, the chromium can reduce the chances of atherosclerosis, or plaque build-up in the vessels and arteries. This can reduce the chances of strokes and heart attacks. The iron content promotes the creation of new red blood cells, increasing circulation and the oxygenation of organs and cells to maximize growth and regeneration of tissue, while keeping the blood vessels and arteries clean.
