Use of complementary medicines for children is increasing - in fact, one pediatrician in four prescribes them. The number might well be higher, according to Alberto Ugazio, president of the Italian Society of Pediatrics.
23 % of Italian pediatricians are prescribing non conventional medicines, 80% of them in addition to the traditional ones. Thus it seems that the majority considers the two kinds of medicine complementary, that one is not a substitute for the other.
The kinds of medicines most used are herbal therapy (82.5%), homeopathy, (74.9%) and acupuncture (5.8%)
