Use healthy ingredients

Tweak your recipes by reducing the amount of sugar and fat. Switch your usual butter with olive oil or canola oil for healthy fats. And instead of using processed sugar, try to use substitutes for flavoring. You may use organic sweeteners for a healthier dessert. This small act will help in lowering the calories you might gain during the day.

 

Maintain a reasonable portion

With too many tempting foods on the table, it’s so easy to lose track of the quantity of the foods you have eaten. So, make sure you put a small portion of each meal that you want to eat. This way, you can have enough space in your stomach and you will not overeat. Another good strategy is to use a small plate when trying out every meal.

 

Go easy while eating

To lessen the chance of overeating, you should chew your food slowly. It takes a few minutes for your brain to receive the signal that you’re already full. Savor your meals during the Thanksgiving, you don’t need to be in a hurry because there’s always enough food for everyone.

It’s a rare case for children to eat oatmeal for breakfast because they would rather choose a bowl of sugary cereal. The tendency here is when these kids grow up as an adult, they won’t prefer eating oatmeal to jump start their day too - which makes them miss a lot of health benefits they can gain from oats. This is why I made a list to answer your question: why should I start eating oatmeal?

It lowers cholesterol levels and controls blood sugar.
Oats contain a type of fiber (beta-glucan) that helps reduce the risk of heart diseases and stroke through the decrease of the low density lipoprotein (LDL) or also known as bad cholesterol. Diabetics can also have a better glycemic control through the water soluble properties of beta-glucan. This helps in maintaining blood sugar, slowing down digestion time, and preventing insulin resistance.

It boosts the body’s immune system.
In relation to the abovementioned, fighting off the bad cholesterols and free radicals through the antioxidant called avenanthramide can help prevent the damage or oxidation from copper of the LDL cholesterols. This helps in another protective mechanism in the body.

It helps you lose weight (YES!)
Oatmeal is a fiber-rich food which means when you eat it, you will feel full in a long period of time and obviously, prevent you from overeating. So, it is a good solution if you are the type that always feel hungry all throughout the day.

It’s easy to prepare.
Well, not all of us are gifted as good cooks. If you are in a hurry every morning, preparing oatmeal to start your day is a wise choice. You only have to boil it with water or milk for a few minutes and you’re done! If you want to add flavor to your oatmeal, here are some healthy toppings to choose from!
