The Yakiniku Rules: dating advice from the front line

The Yakiniku Rules: dating advice from the front line | Health & Life Extension | Scoop.it

“When you take a girl out for yakiniku, you have to follow the rules“, says Natsuko. “Too many men these days forget about TPO“, she adds, referring to the importance of the three things – Time, Place, and Occasion – that are supposed to dictate appropriate behaviour in social situations.

We asked one yakiniku-loving Japanese girl to give us her honest opinion on the dating game, and – well, it was pretty brutal.

After our illuminating chat with our girl (we’ll call her Natsuko), we bring you her top ten tips for not looking like a tightwad at your local Japanese barbecue joint.

10) Don’t use a voucher

Producing a money-off coupon on a yakiniku date deserves an immediate yellow card, apparently. “You can often get coupons for a free plate of karubi (short ribs)”, explains Natsuko, “but it’s not very nice meat. And using a voucher looks cheap.”

Can’t say I agree with that one, unfortunately. We have a saying here at RocketNews24: “There’s only one thing better than a plate of karubi, and that’s a free plate of karubi.”

Although every case is different, this approach will help you address important topics that may be worrying her and therefore lessen her anxieties and concerns. Plus is a great opportunity to dig deep and create meaningful intimacy with great timing.

These are not in any specific order. Here we go!

The future of senior housing for the LGBTQ community

The future of senior housing for the LGBTQ community | Health & Life Extension | Scoop.it

While it is important to celebrate all the achievements and victories made across the country in the last decade, 47 years have passed since the Stonewall Riots that rocked Greenwich Village, kick starting the movement that has culminated in the strides we can now celebrate. The LGBT activists and supporters that clashed with police during their raids are now the very people on the brink of yet another revolution. As they continue to age and transition from working to retirement, this growing population is faced with a number of challenges, most of which were never considered by previous generations of LGBT seniors, who often remained in the shadows their entire lives. While the vast majority of their heterosexual counterparts can depend on spouses and children to care for them well into old age, the aging LGBT community’s network of friends most often extends laterally, meaning their support network is aging right along with them. This generation — which endured the loss of countless loved ones during the AIDS epidemic, did not have the legal protection afforded by marriage rights and is almost universally childless — will depend heavily on the services offered and provided by public institutions, businesses and nonprofit groups, especially when it comes to housing.

Harvard geneticist says reversing aging is plausible

Harvard geneticist says reversing aging is plausible | Health & Life Extension | Scoop.it

Renowned Harvard geneticist George Church said at a science conference in La Jolla on Thursday that reversing aging in humans is plausible based on research that's been done on small animals.

"Reversal is something that has been demonstrated in a number of different animals in a number of different ways," said Church, a keynote speaker at the Future of Genomic Medicine conference. " I think that's going to translate into larger animals and humans. We won't know until we try. But we trying 65 different genes in different combinations to see if we can reproduce the aging reversal that we've seen in small animals.

"We don't know what (age reversal) would mean in terms of human years. Animals have had their life extended by factors of two to 10. That seems too good to be true for humans."

Church, who helped organize the Human Genome Project, says the focus should be on dealing with the actual factors that cause people to age.

"A lot of the drugs in development are aimed at effects, those things that are downstream of the cause of age," said Church, 61. "The real cause is probably genetic ... We're trying to get at those causes and reverse those. We're talking about reversing the epigenetic changes that are at the nucleus of every cell."

He said that aging should be thought of as a program that might be reversed, noting, "If we could take one of my skin cells and turn it into an embryo-like cell and turn it back into a skin cell it has reset almost all of the developmental indications of age. We have 65 gene therapies that are being test in mice and larger animals. If they go well we will go straight into human trials. That could be as little as two years ...

"I don't think it is about stalling or curing, its about reversing. Curing gives you the impression of immortality. Stalling gives you the impression that you'll be 85 forever, which is not great."
