CMS pays providers $12.3B in EHR incentives | Healthcare Finance News

With some healthcare providers now into their second year of meaningful use reporting, Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record payments were estimated at $12.3 billion paid to a total of 219,000 physicians and hospitals through February since the program’s inception.

 

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will post final figures for February later this month as it captures more complete data, said Robert Anthony, a specialist in CMS’ Office of eHealth Standards and Services at March 14's Health IT Policy Committee meeting.

Meaningful healthcare reform needs tort reform so that healthcare providers can spend less time (and less inurer's money) on defensive medicine and more time (and arguably less insurer's money) on preventive medicine and thereby achieve more accountable medicine.
