ObamaCare and the End of Nothing | The Health Care Blog

ObamaCare and the End of Nothing | The Health Care Blog | Health Care Communications & Marketing | Scoop.it

"In the year 2020, ObamaCare is expected to cost $234 billion – roughly 5.04% of all health spending, with an average cost running at 3.49% per year between now and then. The bottom line: in full flower, ObamaCare is an artfully diffused redistribution of health care funding costing barely 1/20th the size of the entire non-system it is supposedly taking over..."

-->We need to change how we organize and communicate health, such as collaborative and constituent-inclusive chart documentation systems, and legalizing mid-level community practitioners as sustainable, effective, humane, and affordable options.

App Boosts the Sounds You Have Trouble Hearing - Technology Review

App Boosts the Sounds You Have Trouble Hearing - Technology Review | Health Care Communications & Marketing | Scoop.it
About 12 percent of Americans suffer from some form of hearing loss, according to the Center for Hearing and Communication, an organization that offers hearing tests and speech therapy. And yet aiding those people is far more complicated than simply increasing the volume on a device, because no two people have the same kind of hearing loss, explains Barbara Kelly, deputy director of the Hearing Loss Association of America. "Every hearing loss has a different fingerprint," she says.
A new smart-phone app called ACEHearing aims to address this via a simple test that diagnoses a user's specific form of hearing loss and customizes the output of a mobile device to better match the listener's ability to hear.

Faces of Medicaid

Faces of Medicaid | Health Care Communications & Marketing | Scoop.it

Medicaid, the public program that provides health and long-term care coverage for low-income individuals and families, covers about 60 million people currently, or 1 in 5 Americans. Medicaid beneficiaries include pregnant women, children and families, individuals with disabilities, and seniors. During down economies, Medicaid places pressure on state and federal budgets as the number of people who qualify for the program grows. Without Medicaid, most of its beneficiaries would be uninsured or lack coverage for essential care.

Healthiest State Blog: The Correlation between Child Poverty and Health Outcomes

Healthiest State Blog: The Correlation between Child Poverty and Health Outcomes | Health Care Communications & Marketing | Scoop.it

by Frank de Libero, PhD - DTI, Inc.

There is considerable literature on the importance for later life of childhood health and well being, including popular literature ("The Poverty Clinic" by Paul Tough, The New Yorker, March 21, 2011; "Origins" by Annie Murphy Paul, Free Press, 2010) as well as truisms such as Nelson Mandela's that a society's soul is revealed by the way in which it treats its children. That child poverty as a metric is statistically important makes sense.
