A journey from Chilean Patagonia across the land of Volcanos to Valparaiso captured with the Sony A7R | 3D-Kraft | Health | Scoop.it

If you ever thought about travelling to "the end of the world", this article may give you an impression, how I saw this terrific part of South America through my eyes (ok, to be more precise: through the Sony A7R with some lenses mentioned at the end). On this journey from Punta Arenas, the southernmost city on the South American mainland we crossed Patagonian snow capped mountains "Torres Del Paine", volcanos, fjords, exotic flora and fauna, chilled on Chiloe and roamed the narrow alleys of the Unesco world heritage Valparaiso.....

I use green to mean stuff that is less bad – and I chose my words carefully – for the planet and the flora and fauna that live on it.

Sustainable, on the other hand, gets beaten around the ring – mostly by people who throw their hands in the air and say, “Sustainable. What does that even mean?” Its meaning is quite simple, really.

It means able-to-be-sustained.

Monitor You – The New Earliest Diagnostics Or The big Revolution in Medicine

Monitor You – The New Earliest Diagnostics Or The big Revolution in Medicine | Health | Scoop.it

Today’s Medicine Procedures: You fill sick and go to a doctor. Tests will be made. In a couple of hours or even days you will get your diagnosis based on the laboratory results and the right pills for your disease will be prescribed. However, what if this could be radically changed for good?

Since more than one decade we’ve developing new medical laboratory products for better and faster diagnostics. Products we’ve made have been crucial for medical diagnostics around the world. However, that seems to change (slowly). It starts all with a new movement: Monitor your Life. Early adapters began with step counters, sleep trackers, calorie recorders etc. and gathered a lot of data over the time. I’ve tried the latest generation of FitBit by myself which is really easy to use. But, seeing all those data raised questions like

How to interpret them? What do this data tell me about me?Could this data help for early diagnostics?

In the first place it helped me to see my sleeping patterns, how fit I’m and where I can improve my behaviour. But this couldn’t be all what we can do with this data? It contains much more information. So, I did a little research to figure out what the latest science results are and thanks to the internet that is very easy.

Having read a couple of papers and seen that people already doing long term tests very successful it was fast clear here is a big revolutionising trend emerging. It will influence both early diagnostics and treatments. Most interesting for me hereby is:

The systems recognise behavioural and physical changes even before the person is conscious about it which provides the opportunity to react on an emerging disease at the earliest possible stage. Instead of taking pills a doctor can recommend changing behaviour; for instance more exercises or a better diet or anti-stress training and prescribe a specific app to monitor the changes independently.

This development solves a couple of problems in modern medicine. First of all, early diagnoses increase the chance of a successful treatment tremendously. Secondly, traditional pharmacy products are very expensive and often out of budget in today’s healthcare systems.

This approach could reduce the costs of a treatment significantly. Furthermore, it goes back to more holistic treatments which do not cure only the symptoms but looking for the cause of an illness. And finally, it helps to live a healthier life.
