Business SOA: Why your IT strategy failed or why the business hates IT

Business SOA: Why your IT strategy failed or why the business hates IT | e-Health | Scoop.it
Lars Axell's insight:

Culture wins over strategy. True. We dont have an IT strategy for making IT better, we have it for making business better.  Make sure that your IT strategy is traceable from the business. The IT department could not make the strategy by themselves. Its a cooperation with the business and with the goal to support and make things possible for the business. in other word, make more revenue, better service to your clients, reduce cost or make better decisions because of more insight.

Too often we focus on what to sell to clients instead of finding out what they need.  There are a lot of good tools to use together with your customers for finding out. For example the Business Canvas Model from Osterwalder and the mindset from JTBD (Jobs To Be Done). Try them next time and shape your business.

Lars Axell's insight:

It seems wrong to focus on storing your health record connected to apple and their hardware/platform. You have to have your health data in the cloud so its accessible by you and those that you have granted access. A national personal health record storing and guarding your data but not forced to use certain hardware/software.

E-health Innovation Will be Powered by Apps | Blog post

E-health Innovation Will be Powered by Apps | Blog post | e-Health | Scoop.it
Lars Axell's insight:

Agree! We really have to take huge steps for leaving the monolithic model and strive for sharing common data but being able to connect new innovations and tools whereupon new technology arises and we could use new knowledge for finding new ways of dealing with health. Besides the different mindsets of how to build the technical architecture, I think the biggest challenge and also the biggest force of driving change will be the culture thing. There is a lot of walls to tear down and lot of old culture "we don´t do like that here", or "we have tried that and it did not work" to bury. As usual for successful transformation we have to find ways to taking steps and not plan for major revolutions. Today we have a huge amount of innovators, we have the quantified self-movements, we have the maker culture and we have a situation where major technical standards and platforms are available. We have good dialogues with both the healthcare industry as well as users and care takers that have a really good knowledge and interest to being a much more active part in their own health and wellbeing. Now we need leaders that dare to challenge the existing culture and to dare to try new ways of working with eHealth. Today there is to many obstacles for innovators to being able to meet a certain need. It is hard to transform the need into an innovative solution accessible on a market and connected to the main basic infrastructure needed for sharing data regarding my health status. The obstacles are not only the lack of an open architecture and infrastructure where we could attach our new innovation. The other obstacle derives from existing culture in many different perspectives. For example different mindsets about public procurement, the profession and way of working as well as trust and security).
