According to health experts, not all plant-based diets are created equal

According to health experts, not all plant-based diets are created equal | Health and Wellness Center - Elevate Christian Network | Scoop.it

A new study suggests that choosing the wrong ones may backfire. In fact, diets heavy in pasta, bread, potatoes and sweets appeared just as bad as, if not worse than, diets high in animal products.

Cee Harmon's insight:

The study, of over 200,000 U.S. health professionals, found those who ate plenty of healthy plant foods -- such as vegetables, beans and whole grains -- did have a lower risk of heart disease.

That was not true, however, if people loaded up on foods that are technically plant-based, but not all that healthy.

How many steps should you walk every day? Some say 10,000; others say 15,000. Here, Dr. Robert J. Davis dives into the history of where this number comes from and how many steps you should really aim for.
Cee Harmon's insight:

While many people find that tracking steps with these devices motivates them to be active, you don't need to do so to stay fit. If you’re not into counting steps, just try to move as much as you can, for a total of at least 30 minutes on most days.

Healthy Living: The Inflammation-Fighting Foods You Should Be Eating

Healthy Living: The Inflammation-Fighting Foods You Should Be Eating | Health and Wellness Center - Elevate Christian Network | Scoop.it

The good news is there’s plenty that can be done to control inflammation. The key is to be strategic about the foods you eat, focusing on a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods and drinking water (or tea) throughout the day.

Cee Harmon's insight:

Use of Sweeteners: When necessary, sweeten foods with honey or another less processed type of sugar. Natural sweeteners tend to fall lower on the glycemic index, which means they won’t spike your blood sugar as much.

This may help combat inflammation. You can substitute sugar with honey in a variety of recipes, even when choosing a topping for your pancakes.
