Australia to make health research open access

Australia to make health research open access | Health and Biomedical Informatics | Scoop.it

Australia's National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has announced that all funded research will be made available to the public starting July:

'The NHMRC is a major player in Australia’s scientific research, allocated nearly $AU800 million in the 2011-2012 budget and disbursing thousands of research grants annually. It also supports research fellowships of various kinds, and provides career development and scholarships to researchers.

In announcing the decision, NHMRC’s CEO Professor Warwick Anderson cited similar policies espoused by the UN’s National Institutes of Health, the UK’s Medical Research Council, and the Wellcome Trust.'
