Intriguing video from "Big Island Video News".  DLNR reminds residents that it's illegal to feed endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals.  Human activities in the ocean have led to several deaths and serious injuries to these seals.  Aloha, Russ.

Hawaii has set the year 2045 as being the target for achieving a fossil-free power generation system.  Although Hawaii leads many parts of the nation in developing non-fossil fuels, the acceptance of solar, wind, geothermal, and other power resources hasn't been easy.  The transition to alternative fuels  will take some time, as businesses install new equipment and electric companies adjust to the "smart grid" plans that will lessen our dependance on fossil fuels.  Switching to alternative fuels makes sense, when you consider the risks of transporting fossil fuels from major suppliers in the Middle East.  Aloha, Russ.

According to "Pacific Business News" reporter Lorin Eleni Gill, Hawaii is one of two states having an online medical marijuana registry program. The registry was created by Act 178, which also provided for the creation of a website and a medical marijuana hotline.  A state House bill (HB 321, SD2) that would create a medical marijuana dispensary system is now in a conference committee. If the bill is approved by the state Legislature and the governor, a medical marijuana dispensary program could be running by the end of the year.  Aloha, Russ.
