Just 31 of Interbrand's top 100 global brands have accounts on Tumblr and only 21 of those brands were active on the social network in the last month.

Tumblr's demographic is quite distinct, which may be one reason big brands haven't established a presence.

 

Another reason is that brands haven't quite figured out how to square Tumblr's circle. It offers quite a different platform than other social sites, so brands are probably just trying to figure out what to do with it.

 

Also, it is being managed by Yahoo now, and Yahoo is still wondering how to leverage its investment. So social media managers are waiting on the sidelines to see if Tumblr can deliver ROI for them
