"In particular, that means support for WebGL — which was used most recently by the Cloud Party virtual world to create a Second Life-style immersive experience right in a Web browser, no download required.
The end result should make it easier to create Web-based virtual world browsers without worrying about making it work with particular equipment." wrote Maria Korolov.

Virtual Outworlding: 2014 PROMO: Using the Kitely calendar--or any other Google calendar for events | Happenings - Virtual Worlds | Scoop.it
The Kitely Calendar is attracting more event listings. Just having the calendar seems to have stimulated more events. At this time, most days in the near term are showing two or three events. This article is intended to tell users and event managers how to make the best use of the Kitely calendar, and of other calendars like it.
Alexina's insight:

Thinkerer uses the Kitely virtual world calendar as an example, but the techniques applies to any organization's events calendar using Google calendar.

Asil's curator insight, April 10, 11:22 AM

The audio is pretty bad on this one, lots of static (maybe his body-mic was hitting cloth of something).  But what I find the most annoying is how bad the synch on his avatar is to the speech; as a machinimatographer, I so wish that was better.

He talks mostly about the challenge of scaling virtual environments to serve more users simultaneously.

NOTE: Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education (VWBPE ) is a global grass-roots community event which focuses on education in immersive virtual environments. This open conference is organized by educators, for educators, to provide an opportunity to showcase the learning that takes place in this community of practice. Asil's curator insight, February 22, 4:24 PM

Readers can come visit, wander through our worlds, and get a story along with the adventure. You can visit Tina Glasneck’s suspense tale Letter to Charlie that takes you through Greyville Writer’s Colony, drop by Shara Lanel’s Good Karma Tarot shop, or trip across worlds (grids) to Nara Malone’s Blue Harbor.

Deanya Lattimore Schempp's curator insight, February 23, 11:08 PM

Not sure how this is interactive fiction rather than just places to visit, but it looks cool.

Interview with Elenia Llewellyn, InWorldz Founder

Via Asil
Alexina's insight:

An article by Bixyl Shuftan who interviewed Elenia Llewellyn, one of the three founders of InWorldz -- Legion Hienrichs, and Tranquility Dexler are the other two (avatar names). I really love InWorldz because of the founders and the residents. It is a beautiful world and the developers are so responsive to our needs. Residents are very supportive of the new Community Library we are building on Sendalonde in Elf Clan on InWorldz.  InWorldz currently has 92,200 registered residents and expects to top 100,000 early this coming year.

A plug for our library that was not mentioned in the interview: Grand Opening of the new library is January 11, 2013 at noon. See http://metaverselibrary.com/

Asil's curator insight, December 25, 2013 12:49 AM

Elenia Llewellyn, one of the founders of InWorldz, made news a few weeks ago when she took part in a discussion within Second Life to answer questions about the virtual world. Recently, she agreed to sit down with Second Life Newser for an interview. Here, she talks about her first experiences with virtual worlds, how InWorldz came about, and some of the challenges in running the place.

New server code at Kitely honors the export permission, so you should not be able to take any of your inventory with you that does not have export permissions. InWorldz Roadmap for 2014 » InWorldz Tech Blog

2014 will bring some exciting changes to the InWorldz platform that will improve upon the performance, reliability and features of the virtual world that many of you call home.

Alexina's insight:

This is an enlightening blog posting about both ongoing, completion and new projects that the virtual world grid, InWorldz, has on their agenda for 2014. InWorldz Viewer V2 will be made the default. [Aside: Mac users still cannot see video on video screens in InWorldz. As a Mac user, this bothers me and hampers some of my activities in InWorldz.] The fine-tuning of region crossings is still being worked on and they hope they will solve the issues in 2013 Q1. There is a whole lot more, so check it out.
