Curate and Publish Navigable Lists of Links with URList

Curate and Publish Navigable Lists of Links with URList | Handy Online Tools for Schools | Scoop.it
Robin Good: Urlist is a web-based collaborative tool to create, publish and share navigable lists of links. Links can be easily typed or collected with the complementary bookmarklet tool, and provided with a custom description. URList automatically collects the thumbnail for each one, and the list author decides whether individual items in the list can be commented and rated by viewers. Items in a list can be easily sorted, moved around and edited at any point and each list can be set to be "public", "private" or "hidden" from public view. Lists can be set to be collaborative so that other users can contribute to them. Every URlist can be also browsed as a sequence of viewable website links kept in context by a top-of-the-page navigation bar, which allows to move at any moment to any link in the list or to follow the list as it has been organized by the author.

What’s the deal with Antarctica and the Arctic?

What’s the deal with Antarctica and the Arctic? | Handy Online Tools for Schools | Scoop.it

"Perhaps the biggest misunderstanding is that the Arctic and Antarctic are similar. One’s in the north and the other is in the south; but other than that, they’re the same, right? No, this couldn’t be more wrong. These polar opposites are literally polar opposites.
For starters, the Arctic is a small, shallow ocean surrounded by land: Eurasia, Greenland, Canada and the United States. It’s only about 5 ½ million square miles, which is five times smaller than the Atlantic and 11 times smaller than the Pacific. Antarctica, on the other hand, is a continent surrounded by the entire Southern Ocean.

This may seem like no big deal, but it makes all the difference in the world. It takes a lot of energy to change water temperature compared to what it takes to change land temperature, which means Arctic seawater isn’t as cold as the continental ice sheet covering Antarctica. So, the Arctic sea ice (frozen sea water) is about 10 feet thick, whereas the Antarctic ice sheet (compacted freshwater ice) is over a mile thick."

Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge

Microsoft's next surprise is free Office for iPad, iPhone, and Android - The Verge | Handy Online Tools for Schools | Scoop.it

 - THE VergeMicrosoft's Office suite for iPad, iPhone, and Android is now free. In a surprise move, the software giant is shaking up its mobile Office strategy to keep consumers hooked to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Starting today, you'll no longer need an Office 365 subscription to edit documents or store them in the cloud. The move comes just days after Microsoft announced a strategic partnership with Dropbox to integrate the cloud storage service into Office across desktop, mobile, and the web. You can now download Office for iPad and store all your documents on Dropbox without paying Microsoft anything at all. Microsoft is also releasing a brand new iPhone app today, alongside a preview of Office for Android tablets, all with Dropbox integration.

It's true! And it works! Have tried it out - now there's no excuse not to work... To be honest, I do find Apple Pages to be a little more user-friendly on my iPad, and it also allows one to save one's documents as Word documents which is what I've being doing. So it's understandable why Microsoft has gone this route.

I saw today via the Twitterverse that the whiteboard app Explain Everything  (iOS|Android) connects with Google Drive. I have primarily been a user of ShowMe when it comes to whiteboard apps but this might be the tipping point for me to move over to the EE side of the fence. Add in the fact that Explain Everything is also the only whiteboard app currently available on Android and it becomes even more attractive since I use devices on that platform as well.

This scoop also showed me thew amount of money a immigrant would have to spend in or for them to get to their destination. By it showing us statistics i can get a better understanding. Also, the statistics about the amount of immigrants that don't get to even make it to their destination and what they can and cannot bring with them.

See and hear a 5-minute video of a real person using your site or app. It's super fast, and totally free.

Usability testing—the process of evaluating a site or product’s usability by letting real people try it—has been around for decades. Initially, it was so expensive and complex that only big companies could afford it. In fact, our cofounder Dave was first introduced to usability testing while working at Apple. When he saw how valuable testing was, he wanted to find a way to make it available to everyone.
