Assessing Digital Literacy: Standards, Tools, & Techniques — Emerging Education Technologies

Assessing Digital Literacy: Standards, Tools, & Techniques — Emerging Education Technologies | ICT voor Bachelor Secundair Onderwijs VIVES - campus Brugge | Scoop.it
Digital literacy is like any other core curricular subject. It is no longer an option, just as reading and math are not. Students must be digitally competent if they are to be successful in school and in their professional and personal lives as adults. Indeed, 3 out of 4 of the best jobs for many years to come will involve digital expertise.

How Facetune and Enlight became top photo apps

How Facetune and Enlight became top photo apps | ICT voor Bachelor Secundair Onderwijs VIVES - campus Brugge | Scoop.it
Jerusalem-based Lightricks knows what it takes to stand out amongst the thousands of photo apps. They’ve done it twice — with Enlight and also Facetune, which is currently the top photo app in the U.S. according to App Annie.

We caught up with CEO Zeev Farbman for a video interview when we were in Israel. He showed us some tricks to using the Lightricks photo apps and explained why he believes they were able to cut through the noise in a very crowded app category.

Lightricks “takes the retouching capabilities of Photoshop and makes them easy to use,” said Farbman. He credits Facetune’s popularity to its simplicity.

“ Beste Paul, Nu wordt overal – ik zou haast zeggen te pas en te onpas – onderzoek op scholen gestimuleerd om eigen vraagstukken te tackelen. Maar nu lees ik ook steeds vaker: evidence-based education is een mythe. Welke houding raad jij aan ten aanzien van onderwijsonderzoek en het geven van onderwijs op basis van bewezen effect?”

Dr. Melissa A. Bordogna's curator insight, March 26, 2015 1:59 AM

At a glance, I thought this a helpful infographic.  It also made me think of the types of feedback I give my students.  In addtion to using a rubric (marking criteria), I tend to provide a fair bit of written feedback.

How about you...Which types of feedback have you found to be very effective in terms of student learning (as oppose to time-saving for us)?

Karen Ellis's curator insight, April 1, 2015 6:57 PM

Designing and planning assesment in online learning is very important.  This infographic reminds us of the importance of making the task student centric and that  ongoing feedback is critical.

8 Engaging Ways to use Technology in the Classroom to Create Lessons That Aren’t Boring - EmergingEdTech | ICT voor Bachelor Secundair Onderwijs VIVES - campus Brugge | Scoop.it
“ Are you tired of delivering the same old lectures on the same subjects year after year? Are you using the same lesson materials over and over and wishing you could make learning in your classroom more interactive? While lectures and lessons can be informative and even “edutaining” when delivered with passion and good materials by knowledgeable experts, sadly many traditional lectures and lessons are boring, and even worse often ineffective. The good news is that the Web is loaded with great free tools that can enable teachers to bring a sense of fun and engagement to their lessons”

3 Powerful Web Tools to Create Whiteboard Animation Videos for Your Class ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

3 Powerful Web Tools to Create Whiteboard Animation Videos for Your Class ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | ICT voor Bachelor Secundair Onderwijs VIVES - campus Brugge | Scoop.it
Whiteboard animation videos are videos that draw themselves. They involve an animated use of images, shapes, characters, sounds and voice-overs to create a clip. This form of video production has been very popular recently and is widely used by some leading educational YouTube channels such as TED Ed and RSA Animate. Creating a whiteboard animation video is no longer a graphic designer's job. There are actually several web tools that allow you to easily put together an animated video with as simple tools as drag and drop. As a teacher, you can  use these animations to create and share tutorials,  presentations, step by tsp guides, and many more. Below are three  of my favourite tools I would recommend for you:

Ik ben zelf eigenlijk helemaal niet zo handig in het ontwikkelen van content. Deze applicaties lijken echter gemakkelijk in gebruik.

Bring your teaching to life with animated videos to engage your students. Select from a bank of content or use your own. Could be great for reinforcing and inspiring. I might have to try one of these.

TPDK, a New Definition of the TPACK Model for a University Setting

Jeroen Bottema's curator insight, July 14, 2014 2:30 AM

"In this paper we propose a new Technopedagogical Disciplinary Knowledge model. This model integrates four separate dimensions, which we use to measure a teacher’s effectiveness. These are the individual teacher’s discipline (D), personal epistemology (E), pedagogical knowledge (P), and knowledge of technology (T). We also acknowledge the existence of relationships between these components. These can be more or less correlated depending on the teacher’s individual profile. They are always present, but they do not necessarily have the same weighting. In order to test the potential differences between teachers’ profiles, we designed a questionnaire, which tested our model’s components, and the relationships between them. This questionnaire was initially submitted to a group of teachers with whom we were familiar, to ensure the questions were understandable and that, based on what we already knew of the teachers’ characteristics, the profiles that emerged were reliable. A second test was then carried out, which we used to compare the answers of university and non-university level teachers, based in the two institutions in which we work. This second questionnaire was used to test the consistency of responses, and the correlations between the model’s different dimensions. Having analysed the outcome of these questionnaires, it appears that “pedagogical knowledge” is significantly correlated with the other three dimensions. This consolidated framework has helped us to build a system of education development coaching for teaching practices that use technology widely."
