Learn to play guitar with this beautifully designed site. Work through the lessons using your own guitar along with your computer's microphone so the site can interact with you as you play in real time. The site will even help you tune it. If you haven't got a guitar to hand, you can use the on-screen virtual guitar. The course is designed for beginners, but lessons progress quickly. The site seems to work best on Google Chrome.

Steven Blomdale's curator insight, March 9, 2013 12:50 AM

The following model presents the various digital technologies resources and how it can be used to demonstrate students learning and knowledge. This model assists students in developing general capabilities needed in the 21st century (ACARA, 2013). However this model allows special education teachers to effectively and responsibly select and manipulate appropriate technologies, resources, materials and equipment to meet the learning needs of students with disabilities and impairments (ACARA, 2013).

10 Ideas for Classroom Video Projects | open thinking

10 Ideas for Classroom Video Projects | open thinking | Hall County Ed Tech | Scoop.it

This is a blog post from Dr. Alec Couros @courosa outlining (with examples) 10 ideas for different classroom video projects. I like the ideas but as someone with almost no video creation skills or experience I can't comment on the level of video skills required...however I agree with the principle of students moving from being video consumers to video producers.

Thanks to @easegill (Nigel Robertson) from the WCEL unit at the University of Waikato for this link.

My rating: 9/10 for good project ideas and examples (no comment on video creation skills required)

The Innovative Educator: Twitter for Administrators, Teachers, and Students

The Innovative Educator: Twitter for Administrators, Teachers, and Students | Hall County Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Twitter is a powerful tool that enables administrators, students, and teachers to develop and strengthen relationships with others who share their passions and interests around the world. Despite the common criticism, Twitter is not about meaningless 140 character sound bytes. The reality is that it’s all about the conversation. Just as in real life there can be meaningless or meaningful conversations. It’s all a matter of who you choose to connect with. The beauty of the 140 character limit is that is helps prevent folks from dominating the conversation and promotes a give and take dialogue.

SnagLearning -videos for learning

SnagLearning -videos for learning | Hall County Ed Tech | Scoop.it

Teacher videos for students and learning. Watch educational videos and documentary films by grade level and classroom subject. Get lesson plans and submit your own. Clearly laid out with educational films at a range of levels including tertiary level (college). Not clear how many films are available but the ones I previewed were high quality and suitable for education.

Note however that some films come up with a message 'SORRY WE HAVE NOT BEEN GIVEN THE RIGHTS TO STREAM THIS FILM IN YOUR AREA'. It does give you a link 'see films available in your area' which is useful.

My suggestion: list running times in the film 'blurb' so teachers know how much time each clip takes - some of them are close to full-length movies. The running time is listed in the pop-up in the thumbnail view.

My rating: 8/10 (only because access from Australasia is to a limited selection of videos - quality is not an issue)

How Students Learn Differently in Online vs FTF Classes

How Students Learn Differently in Online vs FTF Classes | Hall County Ed Tech | Scoop.it

"An offhand comment by a caller to NPR’s On Point discussion of "Big Changes in Higher Ed" about the difference in learning between online education and traditional classes got me thinking about what those differences actually are and whether one mode of learning is inherently superior to the other. Here’s my take on how learning varies between the two to help prospective students decide which path to choose in higher education."
