Japan gets $116bn stimulus boost

Japanese government approves a fresh 10.3 trillion yen ($116bn; £72bn) stimulus package in an attempt to spur a revival in its economy.
Philibert Leow's insight:

Japan's economy has been in a bad shape for the good part of the last 2 decades, can the new government deliver on its promises?

Note: While this may seem like a straightforward attempt at righting the economy, what are some reasons why this effort will ultimately fail?

PM: Nordic model won't work for growth in S'pore

PM: Nordic model won't work for growth in S'pore | Economics Education made bearable | Scoop.it
Philibert Leow's insight:

"Basic differences in culture, society and environment, he said, made it difficult for the Republic to achieve the same outcomes"

"But there are basic differences between Singapore and Scandinavia, in our strategic situations and our approaches to growth and equity.'

Essentially, it came down to one fundamental choice: Low taxes and targeted welfare benefits - as Singapore has - or high taxes and comprehensive welfare."

"I do not believe that Singaporeans would be willing to pay the taxes that Scandinavians pay, or that our economy could be competitive at such heavy tax rates,'

"At some point - not in this term of government, but surely within the next 20 years - the government will need new sources of revenue, which means raising taxes."

With an aging population, rising house and car prices and a whole host of concerns, what would you expect for budget 2013?

and when I say this most people say 'but I like to learn', and they obviously missed the point... think pre-language humans / post-language humans, we will take for granted that everyone masters our language, id est the sum of all human knowledge.
dephunked's comment, January 29, 2013 4:47 PM
we´ll take the worlds knowledge for granted, just like our previous language, just like our tap-water, just like we´ve always assimilated our technology and made it a part of who we are, our cultural/social identity, it´s the human condition,
Chandan Gupta's curator insight, April 2, 2013 3:39 PM

Of course, it should be in system should be synced, but not as a whole. Partially, the system can be implemented. In my point of view it is must to adopt the advancement. Avoiding the thinking of classroom, the system must understand about the participation of the student.

HDB Prices will come down because... | Economics Education made bearable | Scoop.it
Philibert Leow's insight:

The issue of house prices have been a lightning rod for the government for at least the past 7-8 years. Affordable public housing is one of the cornerstones of Singapore's economic development. However, policies and/or the lack thereof have resulted in exploding house prices which has become a national issue.

This is the one of several cooling mesaures put in place is keep a lid on housing prices. Would this help cool expectations?

Note the disparity between countries. Also, what proportion of this unemployment is youth unemployment? It is particularly crucial to take note of the level of youth unemployment as it may lead to a generation of demotivated workers.
