Los Leones y una medalla de Bronce histórica. 2 a 0 a Inglaterra. 15-06-2014 - YouTube

En el partido por el tercer puesto contra Inglaterra, Argentina venció 2 a 0 y se quedó con el tercer puesto y su primera medalla de bronce en un Mundial, es...
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Here we have the two Matías Paredes' goals against England for the bronze. The front argentinian player, one of the most experienced from the team, managed to turn his first goal in the world in The Hague in this game, where the boys played all even though they had already made history (in Argentina as the best in men's hockey was twice a 6th place). This team deserved medal, because they proved not to be less than anyone and could play with any power equals (they beat Germany and New Zealand in the group stage and the left them out). To Matias this has a special flavor because Argentina was playing its final, and he had failed defining in any of the above matches. This is how he completed his dream, the team's dream and the country's one for a sport that needs more of this type of facts to achieve greater impact on people every day.

A bronze age for the golden girl

A bronze age for the golden girl | Hockey World Cup 2014 | Scoop.it
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Las leonas lost the semi final against Holland, nevertheless they won the bronze winning for 2 to 1 to United States who was the eye-opener in this World Cup. Although the fact that they hadn't a bad tournament, the ones directed by Retegui couldn't manage some matches, which made them given away some important points and classified with the minimum. The team didn't have their best player and captain, Luciana Aymar, in two matches where we found her very nervous in the bench. "Lucha" came back into the field to the semi final against Holland but she couldn't do anything to prevent the defeat. Las leonas got the victory against United States and Luciana Aymar takes with her retire the last feat, although some people expected much more from her, even herself who showed very depressed in the press conference and admitted that she had trained a lot for this tournament but she hadn't counted with the injury of the second match.

WOMEN Pool B: Last minute goal sinks England

WOMEN Pool B: Last minute goal sinks England | Hockey World Cup 2014 | Scoop.it
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Las Leonas won their match when it was almost ending, Delfina merino and Carla ribecchi scored the goals. The match seemed boring sometimes, for example in the last minutes of the first half of the game. Argentina's team started losing, with a score of Danson After a penalty corner. Merino ties the game and after that, Ribecchi score the last goal of the match. The referee marked a penalty corner to Argentina, who had another opportunity through a technical failure of the English team into the area, which had as a result the scoring of Argentina when the match was almost ended.

Crunching numbers for World Cup success

Crunching numbers for World Cup success | Hockey World Cup 2014 | Scoop.it
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Through a study made by the Dutch in order to understand why their team can not keep the rythm of this efficiency since the late 90's, we can prove that mental strhenght can overcome speed to have succes in the field.

The Holland team has obtained better results in the period of 1990-2000 and the association wanted to know why. With Gerritsen in charge, he assume as head of the KNHB in september. With the participation of all the national coaches they studied stadistics, goals and own plays of the best european teams. They came to the conclusion that Germany is the mentally strongest team and is first in the ranking; while Australia's team is the fastest one and is second on the ranking; Spain is falling because of the economic crisis and Belgium could come forward fastly because of the development is having.

Gerritsen plans to use all this results to firm up the performance of Dutch's teams, striving every day to became the number one.

MEN Pool B: World rankings turned on their heads as Los Leones enjoy victory by narrow margin

MEN Pool B: World rankings turned on their heads as Los Leones enjoy victory by narrow margin | Hockey World Cup 2014 | Scoop.it
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Los leones won in their second The Hague's presentation against Germany and they are very excited about it. After loosing in their first match against Holland, the last champion of this competition for 3 - 1, the male group prevailed over the germans with a Manuel Brunet’s point to the twice olimpic champion and second of the world ranking.

This result allows them to dream about the classification that means a possible place in the final. This Friday the Argentinian team has an appointment with New Zeland who have won its two matches against South Corea and South Africa.

"Los leones won in their second presentation at The Hague, against Germany..."
Stephanie Jaschek's comment, June 26, 2014 1:26 PM
Check the spelling of "loosing" and "olimpic". Nationalities take capital letters. "New Zeland who have (pl) won its (sg).." You can go with either the singular or plural form to refer to a team, but be consistent.

MEN 3/4th: Paredes brace bags bronze for Los Leones

MEN 3/4th: Paredes brace bags bronze for Los Leones | Hockey World Cup 2014 | Scoop.it
Sofi Vigil's insight:

Los Leones made history and for the first time won the bronze in a World Cup. Although the expectations in Argentina respect the female team, the male team surprised and showed that with hard work everything is possible. In spite of the facts that played them hard, such as the lowering of their best player Facundo Callioni, Los Leones could afford the different obstacles. One of the great solutions that the team found was Gonzalo "El hacha" Pelliat, who's an argentinian scorer and expert in penalty corner. With such a good work from "chapa" Rettegui, Argentina start the fight and show that they can cope any big team (this was showed by the team letting Germany outside the World Cup, who's twice olympic champion, in group stage). Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era for Los Leones who deserve what is happening to them.

la magia de LA MAGA - Lucha Aymar - YouTube

Los mejores goles de luciana aymar :)
Sofi Vigil's insight:

We can appreciate in this video the Luciana "Lucha" Aymar's best goals, who was named eight times as the best world hockey player, four of them were consecutives between 2007 to 2010. The captain of the argentinian hockey on grass selection played her last world cup in The Hague (because she confirmed that after that game she was going to retire) getting the bronze to Argentina. Las Leonas lost in semi final against Holland and Luciana showed herself very hurted because of the injuries she had been carrying, so that she couldn't give the best of her. Also "Lucha" is about to turn thirty-seven years and takes part in the selection team since 1997 being in junior category, and from 1999 in the higher plantel. She's the only one who has won the best world player award eight times, within other awards. Is a big lost for the Hockey world the retire of such a great player like her, above all for argentinians who are going to miss her in the field deploying her magic, because she has won the affect of everyone caused by the happiness that she has given the country.

Sofi Vigil's insight:

Los Leones surprised again defeating New Zeland by 3 – 0 . This result makes them dream about passing to the next round. Despite of being in a complicated pool, the Argentinian male hockey selection is showing to people that they can trust in them. With such a good work of Chapa Retegui, their coach, the players could show today that no team is bigger than them, and that they can beat anybody from equal to equal.

Miao Lin is a famous woman because of being the first Chinese woman doing her job: she has umpired a hundred international hockey matches, which is the reason because she has won The Golden Whistle. She tells about her experience, funny incidents during the matches, and a colleage and friend of her spoke about little but important details about Miao Lin.

Sofi Vigil's insight:

The argentinian dream was nearly close to be shot down because of the Kolojejchick's point that made the final result. Nevertheless, this kind of experience is far away of bringing down the argentinian team, because Las Leonas are more than a team, they're like a family where each one gives hope and support to the other, and the most important is that they give a piece of their soul to win every mach.
