Why Parenting Has Gotten More Difficult | Family Studies

Why Parenting Has Gotten More Difficult | Family Studies | Growing Kids and Teens | Scoop.it

Parents in a recent survey agreed, by a six-to-one margin, that parenting is seen as more difficult today than in the past.

Indeed, to hear today’s moms and dads tell it, Ruth Graham wrote recently at Slate, parents “never get their houses clean, never have sex, never read books or have adult conversations, never shower, and never, ever have a moment to themselves.” That’s hyperbolic, as Graham and parents themselves know, but (many parent-bloggers seem to say) it’s not far off the mark.

This is a good article about helping children during the Holiday season cope with grief.

The biggest thing parents, teachers and grief counselors can do is listen to kids and let them know its is alright to grieve. especially during these sad times.  Helping children cope with grief is best done through new rituals or expressions during the Holiday season.  A memory box is an excellent example found in the article.

in the end, remember, children greive like all of us over the loss of a loved one and not to ignore their grief.

If you are interested in how to become a grief counselor, then please review our program.

Dealing With Your Child's Anxiety

It wasn’t until late last year that it dawned on us that my son faced anxiety and it seemed to get progressively worse as the year went on. As his mother, I questioned myself, wondering if it was due to my parenting or maybe if we would have caught onto it earlier, if things would have been better. Towards the end of his kindergarten year, his anxiety w

How Self-Confidence Combats Bullying - Bullying Ben

How Self-Confidence Combats Bullying - Bullying Ben | Growing Kids and Teens | Scoop.it
What is bullying?
Bullying is defined as superior strength or influence used to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
But let’s go a little further.  Bullying is an attempt by one or more individuals to alienate, humiliate, or intimidate another person or persons.  Originally bullying was considered behavior used to get another person to do what the bully or bullies wanted them to do, however in today’s world it is often a form of targeted abuse through verbal and/or physical attacks, not necessarily intended to make the victim comply with their wishes, but to make the bully feel a sense of power and control.

How to Educate Your Child in Body Safety

How to Educate Your Child in Body Safety | Growing Kids and Teens | Scoop.it

We teach our children water safety and road safety — it is equally
important to teach our children ‘body safety’ from a very young age. As
both a teacher and a mother, I strongly recommend to all parents that ‘body safety’ become a normal part of your parenting conversation. The sexual abuse of children has no social boundaries, and providing children with body safety skills both empowers them with knowledge of what is good and bad touch, and teaches simple but effective assertiveness — a crucial life-skill.

The statistics of 1 in 3 girls and I in 6 boys will be sexually abused
before their 18th birthday is truly frightening, and as many experts point
out, this statistic only reflects reported cases. Also 93% of children WILL
know their perpetrator. The community’s focus has so often been on
‘stranger danger’ — however, the reality is, the perpetrator will most
likely be someone in the child’s immediate family circle and a person they
know and trust.

April is child abuse prevention and awareness month...please forward this very informative article!
