Gretchen Schorr's insight:

Gretchen Schorr has developed a solid reputation as an advisor in the realm of investments and finances, but throughout her life she has had a special love for animals. One of her favorite pastimes is taking a hike with her dogs through the beautiful vineyards near her home in California. Gretchen Schorr and her dogs have gone on many adventures along the coast of California and Oregon!

As a result of this love for animals, Gretchen Schorr is proud to announce her avid support for several animal charities. She is involved with several prominent animal charity organizations, including the Humane Society, the World Society for Protection of Animals, Animal Friends of the Valley, and the San Diego Zoo.

Gretchen Schorr hopes that her efforts with these charities will help to protect the lives of many innocent animals. “I’ve always enjoyed spending time with my dogs, so I realized that I wanted to devote my time and resources to improving the lives of other animals,” Gretchen Schorr comments.

Each of the charities that Gretchen Schorr supports is devoted to bettering the lives of animals. Gretchen Schorr is especially inspired by the work of the San Diego Zoo. Since going on several trips to Africa, Gretchen Schorr has had a fascination with the majestic creatures that she saw on safaris throughout Africa. For instance, in the Masai Mara in Kenya she enjoyed the chance to see the “Big Five,” while she observed the wildebeest migration in the Serengeti and gorillas in Uganda.

As Gretchen Schorr enters into partnerships with these animal charities, she says that the best part about working with these organizations is the passion that these individuals feel for animals. “Everyone that volunteers or works for these charities are completely devoted to saving and protecting animals, whether it’s an abandoned puppy on the side of the road or a hippo who has spent his whole life in the zoo.” Gretchen Schorr hopes to continue working with these animal charities in the coming years. She firmly believes that they are doing their best to make a difference in the lives of animals.

Gretchen Schorr Goes on a Search for the Big Five

Gretchen Schorr goes on safari to go look for the 5 major animals every person should see while on safari.

Gretchen Schorr's insight:

Gretchen Schorr has a great passion for animals and a great passion for travel outside of her work as an investment advisor. She has been all over Africa on safari to witness animals living in their natural habitats. Her greatest sightings were of the “Big 5.” Hunted to just percentages of their original populations, the “Big 5,” are famous not for being large game animals, but instead for being notoriously hard to hunt on foot. Some are included in this category for size and others for speed, but within Africa’s game reserves, they are protected.
Gretchen Schorr visited both the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, as well as the Kruger National Park in South Africa. Both reserves boast the “Big 5,” as residents and Gretchen Schorr counts herself extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to have spotted all of the “Big 5” during her travels.

The “Big 5” are as follows: elephants, leopards, lions, Cape buffalo, and rhinoceros. In addition to seeing these animals in their natural habitats, in her travels across Africa, Gretchen Schorr saw many other animals as well. She was excited about spotting wild dogs in Botswana, which now boasts one of the world’s largest populations of that species.

Gretchen Schorr would recommend a trip to any of Africa’s game reserves to anyone, as she finds it a nearly indescribable experience. Her preference was the majestic Masai Mara National Reserve, but there is really so much to see all over the continent that one trip to one place would not even do it justice.

Gretchen Schorr enjoyed her time in Africa and would recommend it to try to anyone, but also hopes to return herself to experience it again. She hopes to see even more animals in a second trip; but she would probably take the most joy from the expressions of those having those experiences for the first time. Her experience in Africa is one of the reasons the Gretchen Schorr feels so strongly about supporting the World Wildlife Fun to support conservation and research efforts, so these types of experiences are available to people all over the world.
