Studies at the Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology at the University Medical School Schleswig-Holstein in Germany revealed that health benefits of Green Tea may be attributed to an inhibition of the cortisol producing enzyme 11β-HSD1. There is strong evidence for an important role of 11β-HSD1 in various metabolic disorders.

Green Tea has shown to have some inhibition effects on lipid hydrolysis.  Walkowiak et al assessed the influence of Green Tea extract on lipid digestion and absorption.

Results of six tests with Green Tea Extract showed intresting results. Single dose of Green Tea extract taken with a test meal decreases lipid digestion and absorption in humans. The results suggest a role of green tea as an inhibitor of lipid hydrolysis.

Measurements were made via an increase in plasma alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), arginase activities, and total bilirubin concentration.


Ginger or vitamin E treatment showed significant liver protective effect by lowering the hepatic marker enzymes (AST, ALT, ALP, and arginase) and total bilirubin.


Ginger treatments showed reduced oxidative stress and significantly restored TAGs, and total protein levels.

Results suggest that the flavanoids Licurazid and Isoliquiritigenin (from Licorice) had the highest cytotoxicity against tumor cells. Chalcones had slightly higher cytotoxicity and tumor specificity than flavanones. The number of sugar units in the molecule was somewhat negatively-correlated with cytotoxicity, but not with tumor specificity.

Green Tea suppressed waist-hip ratio of women from a significant increase and suppressed mean arterial pressure of men and women from a significant decrease after several weeks.

A study by Toolsee et al investigated the phytophenolic profile of green tea and its antioxidant effects. Risk factors such as waist-hip ratio, glucose level, arterial pressure, antioxidant status, and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in prediabetics were assessed.

The experimental group consumed 3 cups of Green Tea daily for 14 weeks followed. The control group followed a water regimen.

Cardamom (Elettaria cardamom), is known as the “Queen of Spices”. It has been traditionally used as a medicine and has shown cancer chemo-preventive potential in in vitro and in vivo systems.

The precise pharmacological nature of cardamom has still not been fully evaluated.

In a study, by Bhattacharjee et al they identified the proapoptopic, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, anti-invasive and anti-angiogenic targets of Cardamom’s bioactive principles (namely, eucalyptol, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, d-limonene and geraniol).

 

Cardomom is a key ingredient of the handcrafted green tea infusions from The Wise Herb Company.

Many head and neck cancers are believed to be initiated from and maintained by cancer stem cells. In a study by Lee et al, Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the most abundant polyphenol in green tea, was shown to inhibit cancer growth and induce apoptosis in various cancers, including head and neck cancers.

 

The investigators examined the anti-tumour effect of Green Tea EGCG on the above cancers to elucidate further its mechanism.
