Microsoft Begins

Microsoft Begins | Great Minds Of American Technology | Scoop.it
Stuart Schmeltz's insight:

in 1974 after Gates dropped out of college he obtained a job at Honeywell, and learned of popular electronics that had to deal with computers. Gates and Roberts became very interested in this and wanted to start their own coding. They cam to learn that MIT was interested in this and began to start working on the Process in Harvards lab. As they continued to work together they soon founded thhe company that we formally know as MicroSoft. Which was a blend of "Micro-computer" and "software". Though they had a shaky start they computer soon took off and were fairly popular amoung computer lobbyists. Many companies were tring to take over the computer coding that Gated and Roberts have been using. Gates used a business practice of threat to others saying that he is not afraid to play the game. Roberts soon saw Gates as Greedy and Obnoxious so he letft and sold his share of the copany to enter med-school in Georgia. Now it was just gates and Allen who were in charge of the company and soon relocated to the west coast in seattle, washington.

Gates was not only the leader of the compnay in software but he was also the leader in the business aspect as well. He personally reviewwed every line on code that the company shipped, often rewritting code when neccesary. Gates was always traveling helping companies that they have sent coding to and tweeking it to work that much better. In 1978 the company exploded with the staff increasing from 25-128 and form $4 million to $16 million. At this point microsoft had gone global with 30 percent of all computers being microsoft. As time goes on the company still expands and has had many rough patches with big named competitors, but still has made quite the impact!

Gates vs. Jobs Business

Gates vs. Jobs Business | Great Minds Of American Technology | Scoop.it
Stuart Schmeltz's insight:

Gates and Jobs are both very succesful entreprenuers but are succesful in different ways. Jobs is more of a lets get thinsgs done kind of guy and is always trying to find te next big thing. Jobs is more concerned with the success of the company rather than personal success. The name of the company is more important than him self. While Gates is quite the opposite. He sticks with one thing for example his only company was microsoft, which came very successful but gates started three that were alll successful. Gates is also seen as greedy when he started his company and worried much more about personal success rather than the success of the company. He soon grew out of this title when he started the Gates foundation and donated half of his life earnings on the company.

Microsoft Today! | Great Minds Of American Technology | Scoop.it
Stuart Schmeltz's insight:

Today Microsoft is also a very successful company but still does not have the edge that apple has on the world today. APple is a very competitive and successful company. Microsoft is worth about 70 Billion dollars today. The Steve Ballmer is the new CEO of the Microsoft company who took over after Bill Gates took a step down to focus more on the Gates Foundation. Which is where he spends most of his time. Microsoft is trying to break into the phone market which apple has dominated for tht past few years with the Iphone. Microsoft is still a very successful company today, but is no where the leader of the market...Apple!

Business Today...

Business Today... | Great Minds Of American Technology | Scoop.it
Stuart Schmeltz's insight:

For me to start a business today of my choice it would be much harder now then it would have been thirty to fourty years before. The competition in almost all feilds has become very hard to compete and there is a large percent chance that you will fail. Especially for the feilds that Jobs and Gates have entered. This is such a competitve feild and many people are very loyal to the brands that they get a good experience with to start.Technology is more of a competitve feild and a little mishap could change it dramatically...Today, i am not sure if i would be willling to start a company do to the fact that it is such a hard enconomy and the competition is fast. Tl start a company today first of all you must have a location, product, and market. Those are the three main things that you must have to start a company, but there is not guarantee for discuss.
