L’élevage des vins en barrique représente un coût non négligeable pour les producteurs. Le prix moyen d’une barrique de 225 l en chêne français se situe entre 600 et 650 €. Ramené à la bouteille, ce seul investissement se traduit par un coût de 0,7 à 0,8 € par bouteille pour une utilisation de la barrique sur trois ans. Sans compter tous les frais liés au travail d’élevage (ouillage, bâtonnage, entretien des barriques….) et les pertes en volume de vin. Des solutions existent pour alléger ce budget, Vitisphère a exploré quelques unes des possibilités disponibles sur le marché.

“The Building Blocks of Rioja”, a tasting was conducted by Beronia’s head winemaker Matías Calleja to highlight the effect of two different sources of wood on the same wine.

One sample contained a Rioja Reserva from the 2011 vintage which had spent 10 months in 100% American oak, while another was exactly the same except it had been aged for an identical period in 100% French oak.
