And building a mind map can be a wonderful collective adventure. Imagine writing a main idea up on the blackboard or projected on a screen. Say the topic is Global Warming. Ask the kids what some of the things are that might contribute to global warming. Maybe ask them for just one word. Each word or phrase is put up on the map. Each student is contributing to the making of something greater than themselves. This can be very exciting. Now ask the kids what could be done to deal with each of these things that cause global warming. More ideas. More engagement. This process alone is tremendously valuable. But there may be some wonderful subtleties going on too.

De la littératie fonctionnelle numérique. Parmi les premières choses que j'ai développées dans mes cours dans les années '80, il y avait comment faire entrer l'écrit dans la classe pour développer ce que j'ai baptisé à l'époque la littératie fonctionnelle. Le développement de supports pédagogiques comme Didacti permet maintenant d'aller plus loin et de transposer ce type d'activités au contexte des sociétés numériques en plein essor. L'exemple de Pier-Paul Lachance pourrait être repris par les profs du primaire pour en faire une activité de lecture et de compréhension. On peut même intégrer les deux. Les recherches internationales comme PIRL et PISA, qui ont repris mon concept et mon échelle de littératie, montrent que la compréhension de textes incluant des données numériques, est la plus faible. C'est pourquoi aux États-Unis, dans le processus de réforme de l'éducation qui est en cours, la compréhension de textes complexes est placée prioritaire. Les informations sur les contenants alimentaires font partie des textes complexes que les jeunes d'aujourd'hui doivent apprendre à lire et à comprendre si l'on veut qu'ils grandissent en santé et ne contribuent pas à la hausse des coûts de santé!

AlgoBox est un logiciel libre, multi-plateforme et gratuit d'aide à l'élaboration et à l'exécution d'algorithmes dans l'esprit des nouveau programmes detechnologie au collège et deu lycée en seconde en mathématique.  Le code de l'algorithme est construit à partir d'un mini-langage algorithmique ("pseudo-code") qui se veut simple à comprendre et à utiliser. Mis à part les fonctions mathématiques, les instructions sont en français.

Switching roles : an investigation into the use of reverse-mentoring by students to encourage teachers' uptake of ICT in their pedagogical approach

The benefits of reverse-mentoring have not been widely explored in the literature and this study provided evidence that the programme delivered both timely and relevant professional development for the participant teachers. Also the concept of students helping their teachers to develop skills with ICT fitted well with constructivist learning theory and this helped overcome many of the barriers associated with adult learning.
